Ultra Gauge?

Was discussing buying a Hyper Tech with a friend(Subaru driver) and he got an Ultra Tech. I don't really see anything appealing but he says it works... for him.

I have had my ultra gauge for 6 months now maybe or longer, the thing is awesome. I mainly bought it because at the time i wanted to monitor the coolant temp because at the time my waterpump was going bad. the thing is fantastic, I love how I know the exact number of gallons in the tanks, my gauge on the dash is really reading right. But i would really recommend buying one. You will have a lot of gauge options on this little things. ohh and it was either me buying a 3 pillar gauge set up or this went this because i have 50 some gauges i can look at. and its cheaper

That thing seems like a handy little computer. I'm amazed it is so cheap for all it does.

If you have a smart phone you can use the torque pro app. All you need is a obd II bluetooth adapter and it will do everything the ultra gauge will do for less money. Here is a video of it.

After having my ultragauge for about a year and using it back and forth between two vehicles while trying to figure out the best location in a Jeep GC WK Grand Cherokee, I found an easy to to thread and run the cable with almost no adjustment to the dash plastic.

Does it read transmission temperature too?

From what I've seen and heard, the Ultra Gauge is about as close to a DashHawk as you can get, especially for the $$$. Walt has a much more expensive and quality unit that he loves, and maybe he'll chime in and give you his two cents (or ~$500) worth about it. I have the DashHawks on both of my vehicles and even picked up a spare on ebay, just in case one dies somewhere down the road. I've run them for about 8-10 years on my LX and over 6 years on the Jeep. I don't think I could live without something like this on my vehicles. They tell you almost everything you'd ever want to know about what's going on with your powertrain (mostly engine) at any given moment.

Polka, I don't know if the Ultra Gauge will ACCURATELY give you the transmission temperature. On my DashHawks, it reports the temperature but it's off (high) by just about 100*. Years ago (before MSD quit making them) I asked if they were ever going to fix it and they said, NO. I just live with it and know it's off by approximately that much. It would be interesting to know if the Ultra Gauge does report the trans. temp. though. Maybe I'd get one then.

Here's where I have mine mounted on the Jeep.

Very useful and much easier to install that a bunch of gauges. I'll have to look into getting something like this.

I saw in another thread that you were considering a DASHDAQ as well. Did you ever get one?

I've been looking for something like this, and this looks promising. That price is appealing, too. I'm sticking around to see other opinions and mounting points.

I thought of it when they quit making the DashHawk, but I've never had a problem with them so I opted against it. The Dashdaq is the one Walt bought. He really likes it as I recall. I see he's been on here a few times lately, so maybe he'll gives us a review. They are pretty pricey compared to the Ultra Gauge. I know the newer ones have color readouts and touch screens....more to go wrong IMO. The DashHawks are pretty much black and white with red warnings and green for the good things. You can set the parameters you want to be good (green) or bad (red). Mine also has a valet mode (which I'd never use anyway), performance stats, data logging, instant (on the fly) DTC code readouts, and 11 screens with up to 7 item parameters per screen. I use all 11, but have mostly cut them back to 4 item parameters per screen. The eyes aren't as good as they used to be so I need the bigger readouts.

I have an Edge Insight monitor in my diesel van and like it, but it is a lot more than the Ultra Gauge. I have also used the Torque app and it works pretty good with an android phone, but on the Jeep, the Bluetooth link does not turn off when the ignition is off.

I have one in my Ford Ranger, the amount of data you can see is incredible even with my 21 year old truck. In the Jeep though I use the OBD fusion app on my phone.

That thing is huge! I use a ScanGaugeII which can also display a lot of info, but only 4 at a time. I have it set up to show Boost PSI, Voltage, Coolant temp and Transmission temp. A push of a button can easily change what is shown.
