Two tire questions

I finally got the OME HD lift installed and I'm looking at new tires. So I have a couple questions.

From what I've read, I should be able to use 285/70/17 on my stock rims with a 1.5 inch spacer right? I don't mind doing the pinch weld or trimming the UCA bolt if needed, but don't want to do any major fender cutting.

Second, I found some used Firestone Mud Terrains, but 2 have 65% tread and 2 have 40% tread. Is that an issue I need to worry about? It seems like a big difference to me, but I'm no tire expert. What say you guys?

Thanks

I bet the back ones have the 40% tread, if you know what I mean.

I've got the firestone destination M/Ts on my 3/4 ton, and my stepdad has them on his ranger. We both like them. The set on the ranger has about 20k on them now, and they were gently used when we got them. They are probably at 7/32" or so.

I don't know if the 33's (285's) will fit just an ome hd. I know 265/70-17's will.

And you DO NOT WANT 4 tires that are worn unevenly. The wk has a tolerance of 1/4" difference in circumference I think or something like that. Get 4 tires the same size and wear or run your old tires until you can get 4 that are the same. Your transfer case will thank you.

285's will fit an OME HD just fine with the spacer and the pinch weld mod. I didn't touch the bolt, it cleared it fine.

The 285's will fit fine with just the OME HD. Bang that pinch weld as far back as you can. It may look tight near full lock, but they will work just fine. You may have to extend your bump stops a bit, just depends on how much lift you get once the lift actually settles. As far as the uneven tire wear, sounds like they came off a truck guy with a heavy right foot. ModernblueWK is right about using uneven tires. It can be done, but only for short periods (like using a donut spare after getting a flat tire). I would wait and save up/look for something with better wear patterns. Maybe a 255/75?

Alright. I guess I'll wait for some better tires to come along. I sure was itching to get some meatier tires on the Jeep though.

I'll bang that pinch weld in this weekend and have it ready for the tires at least. Already have the spacers on the way.

Thanks a lot guys. Saved me from making a bad purchase.

285/70/17 are 32.71"x11.22". I'm pretty positive i can't run those, with my moabs. when flexed out my rear tires barely tuck in the fender, and i mean barely. my tires are a lot narrower too 32.06"x10.04". thats over an inch wider, and over half inch taller. not sure on the backspacing difference of the wheels anymore though.
