I know this is not the safest of ideas, but i would really like to have an in dash lcd with a tv tuner. I am huge sports fan, but i also work a lot on the weekends, and am in my car a lot. So i would like to be able to watch sporting events from my car. Here is my thinking, get a
7 inch in dash with a av input, then get a mobile tv tuner. My only question is with this switch from analog to digital television signals, i would have to find a mobile tv tuner that is "DTV." Anyone ever done anything like this or have any insight. Also i currently just have a the single DIN stock radio. Has anyone ever installed a double DIN without buying the double din facia thing. I dont really want to drop 100 dollars on a piece of plastic. Thanks for all the help.

I have that, it's a single din with retractable monitor, don't use that feature much but it's nice to have. i like the idea of having my ipod loaded with movies so i can watch then on demand. enjoy!

From my understanding, you will need to do TONS of modification if you don't want to buy a new bezel and double din kit. Mods I would never dream of doing.
It will look alot better if you go the stock route. I gladly paid for my new bezel because it keeps the system looking stock, which doesn't bring attention to thieves.

DTV tuner boxes from Radioshack are small, buy one install it under your seat, Then go out and purchase a 7 inch LCD monitor and wire it up on the dash.
I mean there are endless pssiblities, its all in your budget

thx for all the help guys, i was reading somethings online about mobile dtv tuners. It was being said that the movement of the car affects the digital signals and that you would not get a consistent enough signal for a picture. I know a lot about how radio transmissions work (dad and grandfather both Amateur Radio HAM operators) and that still wasnt making a whole lot of sense to me.
And PISTONSFAN i like you setup, and think that will probably be the easiest way.

MediaFlo seems like a neat idea. I may just wait for that. Although i have a feeling, it wont be in the dash. Itll be more like a rear seat set up. If for some reason it is available indash, then im sure there is some kind of restriction of use while driving. Will have to figure out how to turn this off. Thanks for the help. If anyone has anymore info on the MediaFlo deal, please let me know.

I saw one of these suckers on a Yukon XL the other day while driving down I-4. Come to think of it, ive seen these suckers for sale at Cadillac dealers as "accessory options" for the Escalade.

Massive. Both in capability, price and size hehe
$3000 and $50 a month gets you the works. Quaint.

I'm guessing the MediaFLO option will be reasonably priced, versus $3000 plus $50/month.
Maybe MediaFLO could be added to current MyGig, not sure.
There is also something from Sirius, called "Backseat TV" for Chrylser, supposed to be out by now, but the programming seems only for kids

We've got DirecTV at home so it's only $5/month for us. There are similar setups for campers/RVs but I've never looked into them much since we don't camp enough to make it worth it.
