I have not done mine yet.. But from what I have read on the forum, it seems that the best bet is to replace all 6 glow plugs AND the glow plug controller to make sure the #5 issue is resolved.
What my dads turbo looks like. Then the glow plug, he got about 10 good starts on it with the code cleared. Looks like module time, I just swapped the module on mine, no code for over a week now.

did you suck a squirl through your turbo by accident or what? Those look like they took a beating.
This is why I try not to run anything but dry filters.
No idea what happened. My son was changing out #5 glow plug, pulled the intake tube for grins and then I heard "Dad, look what I found!" We checked the filter and any pathway that vcould lead to injestion, but found nothing. I'll fix it this weekend.
Do you have the aluminum plug in the turbo intake tube?
I saw some people plugging the 1/2" hole in the turbo intake tube (about 2" infront of the turbo) with some ACE hardware rubber plug with a nut and bolt... and if that is there that could have caused it if it came apart.
Factory runs a rubber tube from the crank case breather hole on the passenger valve cover up by the firewall to the turbo intake tube, a couple inches in front of the turbo, with a small heater inline of the tube.

I didn't look at the heater in the inlet tube, maybe the heater came apart and FOD'ed out the turbo. You just have to pull the end cover to get to the heater.
Make sure the K&N fits properly. I have seen numerous filters with bad fitments allowing dust particles to bypass the filter and erode turbo vanes. None as bad as yours however.
I pulled the heater off the breather tube. There is nothing inside the heater part, just slick orange plastic. Is there anything supposed to be inside that short piece of tube?
No, there is nothing supposed to be in that tube. There is a heating element in the upper portion but nothing that blocks the flow. Mine just sits alone in the engine bay taking up space.
Thanks! It can't produce much heat if it just plastic. I have to wonder what it does and how it does it.
