Transmission Service

Hey guys,

We burned the transmission fluid on our '06 Commander while pulling a trailer up hill and then backing it up hill into a camping spot. We had a transmission overheat light come on and till it cooled, couldn't even get it to go in reverse.

The recommended service was to flush the transmission, and replace the filter and fluid. The cost for this was $576. $287 for labor and the rest for parts. Was this reasonable? And while it is still much cheaper that a new transmission, still wondering if we got taken.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Just got my 05 3.7L NAG1 Transmission fluid and filter replaced at the dealer for $180. It was a quick drain/refill not a complete flush; complete as in draining the whole fluid including the torque converter. Still $576 is way too much . Average labor is 92 bucks an hour @ dealer, so 3.1 hours to change fluid is outrageous. filter is $39~$49 tops.

Which engine are we talking about, so we know which transmission we're talking about? In either case the price of your service was a little high, but if it saves the tranny, it's well worth it.

I'm gonna say you got taken - but it's water under the bridge now.

Does everything seem to be operating properly?

FYI, there's coupons on mopar.com for some dealers to do a $150 filter/fluid change. You have to search the dealers in your area.
