Transmission Rebuilt - Still Rough Idle

Frustrated is an understatement.

2005 Grand Cherokee Limited with 136k miles. Just had the trans rebuilt, which included a new torque converter. We were getting codes p0700, p0740 and p0308 prior to this. No more codes.

We still have a rough start up, where it seems to barely turn over. Sometimes need to turn the key more than once.

We have had plugs, ignition coils, fuel injectors and various sensors replaced in the last 6 months. Compression test was fine.

Any suggestions to get this problem fixed?

Barely turning over could be a starter issue.

So does it idle rough all the time? Or is it only hard to start?

Copper core plugs?
Have you checked fuel pressure?
If turning over slowly I would look at battery
If O2 sensors have never been replaced you might consider that (won't help with hard start though, only poor running/gas mpg possibly)

Battery replaced less than 12 months ago

It is a rough start, and a rough idle. If we give it gas and rev the motor while in park/neutral, it "misses" when it hits about 3,500 rpms.

The plugs were Champion copper if I recall correctly.

We have not done O2 sensors yet, nor have we looked at fuel pressure.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Couple other things that come to mind to check are:

PCV valve
Vacuum leaks

The trans has nothing to do with a rough idle.

That last code is cyl# 8 misfire which is related.Bad cats can also cause what you are feeling but are not bad enough yet to trip the 2 cat codes(P0420 and pP0430).I've seen in multiple times with the 3.7/4.7 Jeeps.

Why did you rebuild the trans, was it shifting wrong??

Hope you get it worked man. Any news yet?

Im having similar issues but I think mine is stemming from my 013C and 0340 codes by a bad passenger side cat.

Update: The Transmission was Rebuilt because it threw 3 transmission codes, and suddenly one day it was hesitant to go forward or reverse when either D or R was engaged. A Dangerous Situation to be on when out on the road. We took it to an independent shop we've taken other vehicles to, and they've always been fair and honest with us.

As for the rough idle, I just ordered 3 new 02 sensors from Rock Auto. After doing some research, I found these should be replaced at 100k, and the vehicle now has 136k. I also learned that you should definitely stick with OEM O2 Sensors. All 4 cost a total of $250 at Rock Auto dot com. It would of been $400+ at Auto Zone, and I can only imagine what the Stealership would charge. The sensors should be here soon - fingers crossed, it will solve the problem.
