tire size on stock rims with 2" lift and no spacer....the real deal...

OK...so after reading the faq about tire size...and getting completely inconsistent data on the forum...I decided to go out and try something on my own...

the faq says the largest tire you can run is a 265/70...they should also have mentioned the pinch weld mod/bolt cut/backspacing issues....so i devalue that answer....

IMO if you've just got done buying a lift and tires....the last thing you want to do is pay 4-500 more for new rims....AND i LIKE my stock rims...I think they look sharp.....

So after some measuring and comparison from the stock tires I had on there (GY Wrangler HP 235/65/R17s) to what I wanted to try to mount (BFG Mud Terrain KM2 245/75/R17s) I took the plunge and ordered the tires...

Many people told me that these tires WOULD contact "the bolt" and I would have to trim...many people were WRONG...there is about 1cm of space between the tire and the bolt...you can stick the tip of your finger between the tire and the bolt....without trimming....

Many people also told me I would have to do the "pinch weld mod" this was also incorrect information....at full lock there is no contact with the fender in front of the pinch weld....at all...

HOWEVER...there is MINIMAL contact with what i guess is the unibody and the tire at FULL lock....when I say minimal I mean minimal...I believe that running a minimal spacer of <.5" would correct this and enable you to hold the wheel at full lock with zero contact between the tire and anything other than the dirt on the ground....

I know that I owe you guys pictures...I will make sure I get them posted...the overall point I am trying to make is that I mounted a 31.7" diameter tire on a stock rim and I wont be hacking and chopping my jeep to death...

I know it's not as WIDE as some of you guys like...but i think it's a FANTASTIC compromise for those of you that want to run stock rims....

Thanks for sharing that info.

I just received my 245/75/17 BFG All-Terrains today and am still waiting for my OME kit. I'll be using the stock wheels as well, so it's nice to see your post validating minimal install issues for this configuration. =)

You are the second one I know who put 245/75R17. I don't know why there is no more people using it. I'll probably go why this size of tire... but I wonder if its will look too narrow. I can't have them test fitted here. That would be nice if you can post some photo of you jeep with those tire on, especially the front and the back ! Thank you !

I have 245/75/17 bridgestone at's for my winter tires on my stock wheels. I use them for winter duties. I have kmc spy's with dura trac in 265/70/17's for my summer/offroad setup without folding the pinch weld. They do rub a little however. Both setups do. I also have moog upper ball joints.

245/75r17

Thx a lot alexwhite96523.

This info came just in time. I fitted a 2" OME suspension and I also want to keep my stock wheels. I had them sandblasted and powdercoated in flat black.
The tire of my choice is the 245/75R17 Goodyear Wrangler silent armor 'cause this fits my needs of an All Terrain tire which is very capable in snow. Also the speedindex is higher than with the other AT tires.

Same here, didn't want the tires sticking out of the wheel wells and throwing excess debris/dirt/rocks/mud/snow at objects behind the Jeep, as well as have better snow performance of a narrower tire.

Looking forward to the pics. =)

Thank you !

IM waiting for your pics... It will sure help me make my decision... it will be 245/75R17 (E rated) or 265/70R17 (C rated) BFG A/T KO.

ok....these are off my blackberry and for that I am sorry....but this is what it looks like....i shot the pinch weld area and i think that you can see the bolt clearance...but if you know anything.....the bottom of the bolt is less than 1cm wide and that's just about how much clearance you've got there!!!

anyway....these are my 245/75/17 bfg mud km2's (ON STOCK RIMS/NO SPACERS!!!!) on my 05 wk limited with the OME HD lift....i freakin love it...

yarrrr...
