Throttle body help! Who knows their stuff?

Looking to swap out the throttle body on my 2005 3.7L for something larger.

I was in touch with Dan "The Fast Man" a few months ago, but he was super behind and I ended up losing the funds for the purchase.

I'm now looking for a cheaper alternative for an upgrade. I've been hearing a lot about people using the 4.7L TB since it has a 3" diameter versus my stock 2.5" HOWEVER, this is where I am running into issues. I am under the impression that in 2007.5 they changed the throttle body style for the WK so I am having trouble figuring out what 4.7 TB would be compatible with my 2005 WK.

I've been searching around Ebay, but don't want to pull the trigger until I know for certain I'll be able to bolt the new TB on without any issues.

If anyone has any input, photos, or even links to a compatible throttle body it would be greatly appreciated.

I tried going that route and bought this off ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/THROTTLE-BOD...cf3438&vxp=mtr

Turned out it was the exact same TB that was already in my 3.7L. All the measurements were the same and it would have bolted right in. I never installed it though since the one I have works just fine.

Just_Josh,

Did you end up going a different route after finding out the one you ordered was the same as what you currently had? Or did you just decide to keep your stock TB. I hear people throwing the term "Viper" throttle body around but can't quite figure out what that is exactly. I'm under the impression it was just taking the 4.7l TB off another car of the same make and using it in the 3.7l, but based on what you just said this doesn't seem like it would matter.

The Viper throttle body is another name for the 4.7L throttle body. The Dodge Viper uses two of these throttle bodies.
If you have electronic throttle, the 4.7L Viper throttle body will bolt up as long as it's electronic as well.
I don't know the specifics of which year is electronic, but I have the 4.7L throttle body on my 3.7L engine.

Interesting, the 3.7L TB opening should be 2.5" and the 4.7L should be 3".

Did you already have the 3" one or did you get screwed by the seller?

I suspect the latter.

Edit: there is a difference in bore size for the early 4.7L TB and the late 4.7L DBW version it appears?

I did a quick search and it looks like the cable actuated 4.7L TB is more like 2.75" (the DBW one is closer to 3")

I cannot easily find a proper post or review on the 3.7-4.7L TB swap on the cable actuated version

However based on reviews regarding thefastman port and polish jobs, there should still be performance to had with this swap

I'm still running the stock TB. Have some other issues I've been wrenching on the last few weekends and this is the first I've even thought about this in a while.

I'll take some measurements and snap a pic of both TBs when I get home. If I remember correctly, the outside diameter of my TB was 3.25. Pretty sure the airaid intake came with a 3.25-3.5 coupler.

Took pics on phone but too big to upload. Both TBs were at 2.5".

Just a word of caution when increasing throttle body size on any engine.....bigger is not always better, especially if you don't have a high performance (header back) exhaust system. IMO, going from 2.5 in. to 3.0 in. on a 3.7 is pushing it. For example, the stock Hemi's 5.7 AND 6.1 stock throttle bodies are 80mm (3 5/32 in.) and most go with the 85mm (3 11/32 in.) when going to a larger unit. That's only 3/16 in. larger than stock. Bottom line is that if your engine isn't capable of processing the CFM capability of the throttle body, you may end up losing power.

Anyone have any info on also adding the airbox and tube off a 4.7? I pulled the trigger on the TB for my 3.7, and while I save for a CAI swapping the current intake came to mind.

Does anyone know if the intake off the 4.7 is infact larger? or have an input regarding this swap.

Thanks again for all the input.

Bump.

Ordered the airbox and tube off a 4.7l (got it from a guy on here) will update on results once I get everything on. Next weekend most likely.

Update:

The 4.7l throttle body arrived in the mail today. It was off a 2005 4.7L WK. The diameter was 2.5" from inside edge to inside edge. When I took the air box off my 3.7 to access the TB I quickly measured it up and found they are exactly the same. So this means I'm back to square one and need to return a throttle body. What a waste!

Anyone have any thoughts?

Pictures show stock and the one I ordered.

Bummer, what model number was it?

Maybe all of the cable actuated TB's in 4.7L's were that size, maybe not.

It appears that this may not be on the early 3.7l's
