Third Row Seat Removal

Has anyone taken out their third row seats?

It turns out I've only used it once in 6,000 miles, and I was thinking it might help add some cargo room and reduce a little weight.

Are they easy to take out? Any pics? And is it worth the extra space?

Thanks. I wish they were fold flat AND instantly removable.

Yeah, it'd be nice if they just pulled right out. I've been meaning to unbolt them and take them out. If you beat me to it, let me know how it goes, and I'll do the same.

Thanks for the information zim. I wasn't even aware of that other site. I guess I need to join so I can view the pics.

Their gone, took about an hour and most of that was trying to get the akward things out of the commander. The middle bolt took awhile, but I should have used an air gun on it and that would have taken care of that. Yes, worth the extra room, doesn't look too bad, but I may get a mat to cover it all up back there.

I'd like to see this if you can take a pic? I'm thinking about a Commander to replace the wife's Liberty. I'm not sure how soon, as I'd like to get more of the Liberty paid off. We wouldn't have a use for the back seat... with no kids. Jeep ought to make a door to fit there if the seat comes out. Like a locking trunk!

How many people does a commander seat comfortably?

Jeep says 7 (2 front, 3 middle, 2 back). But the back seat is really only good for kids from what I hear, due to limited leg room. But really, who travels with only 7 adults and no kids?

I'm thinking with the cargo cover of your choice and a couple of small cooling fans, that would make a very nice location for an audio system.

Are you planning on taking out that jack and lug wrench cover portion too?

Or do you like how it works as it is, in your pictures?

Sycohemi, not sure??? It would be better with it out, but not sure where to put the jack and such. I like the storage, though. What stinks is, a week after I took them out, we needed the seat, so I had to put them back in, dope! So after fighting with the seats to get them out, then put them back in, I've just left them in for now.

It would have been nice if they would just pop in and out...
