As promised a few pictures of my provent fitted to a UK (RHD) Grand Cherokee, sorry If I gone a bit mad with the pictures, isn't digital great.

Provent fitted on bulkhead, be careful when fitting, behind the bulkhead is the air-con blend box, I took the glove box out when drilling holes.

hopefully the urls will allow you to see the picture in a larger scale.
sorry about the first attempt on page 1, I couldn't remember how to add pictures.

thanks for the great pictures Mickey63!

I will pass this along to the 300c CRD forum as well, they may be able to apply your setup to their vehicles.

Hi Mickey cheers for the photos i am sure they will help me with my install.I have ordered a Provent from Power utilities today (very helpfull people) and hopefully i can obtain the pipework and clips from work.
I will not install Provent until i cure this power loss problem (see my other thread CRD powerloss between 1500-2000 rpm) just incase it voids the warranty. Many thanks again.

Nice Job ! I noticed you used the ASH silicone hoses and reducers. Are those 25~19mm reducers ? Also the main hoses looks like the Silicone Autoflex 19mm is that right ? I was thinking of using two 90 Deg alloy bends instead of prebent silicone hose to get around the turbo pipe and back in. The only worry is the the top pipe going across the trubo. It must get very hot in there. Do you know what the temperature range of the hose is that you used ? Since the install have you had any error messages ?

Thanking you in advance.

Hi hangloose

I like the idea of making the pipe work around the air intake pipe in alloy or some other metal material, I did think of doing that but suffered with time constraints and finding any off the shelf metal pipe work to fit. Maybe next summer now I have the silicon hoses to use as a template, I’ll find someone to make something…….

I bought the hoses from various retailers, some better than other in question of price, stock levels and customer service...

From Auto Performance Silicone Hoses good on price but very poor on the second two

The straight main hoses are a 16mm (ID) inner diameter
The straight reducers from the Provent are 25mm (ID) to 16mm (ID)

I would have liked a larger (ID) but these hoses have a very thick wall, I felt restricted to go bigger.

Polyester Reinforcement: 3 ply construction up to 48mm bore (4.5mm wall thickness) & 4 ply construction from 51mm bore upwards (5.0mm wall thickness)

The temperature range for the hoses are shown below, I hope my intake never gets anywhere near 180C.

Temperature Resistance: -60 C to 180 C max. Suitable for: Water - Air - Coolant - Boost - Small amounts of oil mist.

I bought these hoses from Welcome - Hose World Ltd - hose suppliers & distributors in the UK

I can't remember the exact size's I used around the Turbo pipe, It was either 16mm (ID) to 16mm (ID) then 16mm (ID) to 22mm (ID)
Or it was 16mm (ID) to 19mm (ID) then 19mm (ID) to 25mm (ID)
Sorry can’t remember the size of the sensor that plugs into the turbo pipe.

As I said in an earlier post, the hoses have been on the Jeep for 6 months and approx 7000 miles,
so far showing no signs of any wear and tear and definitely no errors (knock on wood)

Good luck.

If you do use alloy piping around the turbo intake, let us know how you got on….

Thanks
Mick

Many Thanks Mick. The alloy bends were actually on the ASH website.

I have been lucky with my CRD, I have moved to Australia 7 months ago and so far its been faultless even with off road driving in sand / desert. But a Provent or similar will keep the intake system nice and clean. I change the oil every 6000 miles now and make sure to idle before shut down after a longer run. I am looking at fitting a Bogaard turbo timer to help with this. Cheers.

I don't think I've ever read a post about a error code due to a Racor or Provent install.
As long as you don't restrict the flow, you shouldn't notice any issues. Mickey pointed to a site with silicone hoses, hopefully that is what you used, non-oil resistant hoses have been known to cause problems.

Looking for photo of 300C CRD with engine cover off - Chrysler 300C Forum: 300C & SRT8 Forums
Sorry i don't have a Jeep but i do have a 300c with this engine.

The only place they could come up with was nowhere for a provent or racor...

How ever i found a place for a provent at the front of the engine bay in my 300c CRD. Just had the swirl port problem touchy little donk. It can be done but the engine cover may not go back on. Mine is working now i should have read the jeep forum earlier i could have done it sooner.

From what i have read all turbo diesels should have one.

Thanks to every one here for the great info. great stuff.

Cheers
