starting my 2008 WK build

hey guys,

so i finally purchased my own Jeep WK!

a 2008 3.7L, i love it to death. but now it is time to transform it. i have been browsing this site a long long time, and i must say that some of you guys have done an amazing job with your builds!

i have decided on a priority list if you will, with all of the mods i would like to make. lift, wheels, engine mods etc. the one thing i have not been able to get a definitive answer on is the tire size i should use with my build..... so that is where i am asking for help!

after a lot of research, i have decided to go with an OME MD 2" lift, and at this point in time (based on what i have been hearing) a set of 17x8 wheels. I would like to use a trail grappler tire, due to the nature of what i would be using the jeep for.

in all of your expertise, what would be the largest tire size i would be able to fit given the lift and wheel sizes, without any rubbing or having to preform further mods?

any help with this is greatly appreciated!!

285/70/R17! I have Duratracs in this size and have plenty of clearance over them. With the pinchweld mod I have zero rubbing. Be careful though, look into tire weights. Trail grapplers are heavy suckers in 285 size. My Duratracs are 55 pounds each and I have plenty of power with my 3.7. I definitely would not run the 85 pound Trail Grappler with my V6.

Yeah, but that's because I'm using stock JK wheels. If you want to avoid wheel spacers buy new wheels with proper backspacing.

any idea how much backspacing i would need without the wheel spacers? the wheels i am looking to order have 4.89 backspacing, think there would be any rubbing with that?

I have 33s with 4.5" back spacing and I only run in reverse. I have the 3.5" xfactor leveling lift. And I rub when I go on trails. I didn't put tires on that's how I bought it

Just installed my OME MD lift Monday, along with the JBA UCAs. (Boss thinks i was sick, so shhhh) also had the tires/wheels installed by a friend of mine.

The wheels were a gift from my gf, i think they turned out pretty slick. Don't worry, she is prepared for the beating they may (or may not) take.

Next up this weekend i will be doing the needed pinch weld mod, i will try and get some better looking pics for you guys when thats complete. I am hoping to christen the new parts this weekend since all the snow has melted and it is nice and sloppy outside!
