Starter issues

My wife called me from work a couple of days ago saying that our 07 WK Overland wouldn't start. I had the battery checked and changed the relay, but the problem persisted. After researching the forums, I determined that it is probably the starter solenoid connection that a lot of people have had.

My question is: is there a way to get to the starter wire from the top? I'd like to try and jiggle it to see if I can get it to start, but so far I'm not having any luck even seeing it from the top.

If I am going to need to get under it and take the skid plate off, I'm probably going to have to have it towed to the house so I can work on it in my drive way. It's currently parked on a slope, so I don't think I'd feel comfortable jacking it up and getting under it.

just go and try starting it. The solenoid wire problem is erratic. Often will start if you let it sit for a bit.

Been trying it off and on for a few days now. Hasn't started once. Maybe the starter is completely shot. I'm having it hauled to the house now so I can work on it this weekend.

It may be a seperate issue, but mine had similar symptoms which the wire wiggle and cleaning off fixed. But before I did all that if i turned the key real fast off and on without stopping it would eventually turn over and fire up. Worth a shot.
Good Luck!

The easiest way to get to the starter is through the drivers side wheel well. Take out the plastic shields and the starter is right there.

^^^ There are a handful of plastic rivets and pushpins to remove then it comes right out:

However, it's still gonna be easiest to jack it on stands and remove the wheel.

Thanks for that. Got the wheel off and the plastic out. Now I'm looking for a starter. I was hoping it would be sitting out there looking at me, but I can't find it for the life of me.

Found it But it looks like the starter is going to have to be replaced. Messed with the wire and banged on the starter, but still nothing. I think I'm going to have it taken into the shop to have it changed.
