starscan tool and sound system

http://http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=536656
ok got the new warranty speaker installed and went straight on a roadtrip. now the rear speakers don't seem to be as loud as they used to. when your sitting in the back you can barely hear the rear speakers at a low volume and you hear the majority of the sound from the front speakers (treble and bass). you have to put your ear right next to the speaker to make sure that it is working.

now my question is did the tech that changed the speaker somehow with or without the starscan tool manage to turn down the rear speakers so i wouldn't fry them again? is it possible for jeep to regulate this?

(completely stock system)

The first and easiest thing to do would be to check your fader setting. Perhaps the tech put all the sound to the front to make sure they weren't distorting and forgot to change it back.

The second thing would be to check the actual speaker connector.

If those are both good, then...?

My 08 GC Rocky Mountain with 4.7 has a similar problem. You can hear music out of the dash and rear door speakers but the front door speakers make little or no sound.

I don't think its possible I could have blown only the front door speakers.

I am dropping off at the dealer tomorrow for diagnosis.

The front speakers are components. Therefore, the front door speakers are crossed over so they only play bass, the dash speakers are crossed over to only play mids and highs.

The dealer just called and said they fixed the front door speakers. Said it was a computer problem.

To clarify - when listening to music no voice could be heard from the front door speakers but you could hear through dash and back door.

I guess I will find out tonight...

This seems like an example of automotive electronics being just too damn complicated. A car stereo system should be really darn straightforward. Call me old fashioned...

Very weird that it was a computer/Starscan issue...

Do you have the navigation unit? i wonder if the stereo sound was muted, and the system was expecting to output the guided navigation voice? IIRC my stereo musics volume is lowered considerably in order for that auto voice guidance commands to output and be heard. May be some how the "computer"/Navi got confused.

Problem solved...

The dealer flashed the sound system or star scanned it so now I have sound coming from the front door speakers.

My trusty salesperson let me listen to another GC with Boston Acoustics sound system to verify.

Note - on the stock stereo system the speakers output similar sounds. The Boston Acoustics system uses the front door speakers for bass and mid range letting the dash speakers handle most of the voice.

Once again I am very pleased to have a Jeep GC again after a 5 year hiatus.
