So... Forgot to show this to you guys.

In February I installed a new shifter knob on my WK. Knowing the shifter mechanisms in these WK's are not exactly bomb-proof (pun intended) I was hesitant to do it because this one's quite a bit heavier than the factory one, but i haven't had any problems so far. What do you guys think?

Check with local "Army & Navy stores". There's a place by me that sells old surplus stuff like this, Pineapple style grenades that have been bored out and have a nice hole in the bottom for this.

There's one right across from the base I'm on ill have to go check it out. How would it be mounted though? I'm assuming the old one just twists off?

No clue ask OP lol. The old grenade I have has a hole in the bottom, so it would have to be likely threaded/tapped if the post is threaded (Which I don't know).

Wish I could say I fabricated it myself, but I actually got it from Qudratec! They can be found here: http://www.quadratec.com/products/96117_702.htm

The only thing is, once you remove the shifter knob you have to cut the shift lever down a couple inches (unless you want the grenade sitting really high up - I thought it looked weird, so I made it sit lower). So once you commit to it, there's really no going back.

The installation is really easy. It comes with a set of plastic inserts that accommodate different diameter shafts. One of them happens to fit perfectly on the WK shifter. It's then secured using set screws. The fit of the plastic insert is so perfect, you really don't even need the set screws. I've been really happy with it. All my first-time passengers do a double-take.

The original shifter knob comes off by twisting the collar underneath the shifter like, a quarter or half turn, then you just pull (firmly) up on the shifter and it comes off. The shaft actually goes really far up into the factory knob, but it can't go very far into the grenade knob. That's why I had to cut the shaft.
