It's been a couple of weeks so I just thought I'd update on the progress of Smokey for those following.

I got a call from the guy in Sacramento who is rebuilding the engine, it will be done by the end of the week. It's a little more expensive than I was hoping it would be - only by a few hundred dollars - but considering he's providing all the missing bolts and gaskets that were stolen and can return the ones I purchased, it's almost evening out. That and I'm getting a full new set of pistons, rings and bearings. He recommended boring out the cylinders but it would have added a significant amount more to the rebuild so I passed. Autozone was running a 20% deal for ship-to-home items so I ordered a new torque converter too.

I have all the suspension components ordered for the lift except the upper control arms and adjustable rear track bar. I was going to go JBA upper control arms but since the rear track bar is from RRO, I may go that route to save on shipping. I've read many positive reviews about the RRO ones, I'm sure I'd be happy with them.

I've also ordered new CV axles, they'll be coming in this week. I figured since I had to destroy one to remove the front axle, and that I'll be lifting the Jeep, it makes sense to do both and start fresh up front.

I'm trying to figure out what order I'll be reinstalling everything. I'm not sure when the lift will be here since the front springs were on backorder. I planned to do the pinch weld mod, then suspension, then motor install however it appears the motor will arrive first so that just might go in first.

If I pick up the motor this weekend I'll be sure to take pics and share them here. I have just about everything I need to get Smokey running again... fingers crossed we get there soon.

Oh man, that sounds like a good time! I'm actually headed to Mammoth for a long weekend. I'll be coming back through Sac some time Monday depending on how long we stay on the mountain. I was going to take a little detour and swing through to pick up the engine on our way back.

Appreciate the invite!
