Should I buy this crd?

I was asking before about hemi vs crd, and well I decided I want te diesel. The jeep I been looking at is a 2007 limited with 123k asking 15900 from a dealer. They don't want to budge on the price, is it fair or should I walk?

james_2k 09-29-2013 09:26 AM

condition? have you test driven it?

TurboDiesel 09-29-2013 09:28 AM

me personally i would avoid 2007

look at the tsb list from 07-08 and its night and day
also 08 looks better IMO

Yeah two times haven't noticed anything major. Just some chips in the paint on the hood, missing the cargo area cover, and they need to charge the ac.

My issuie is I think my truck is dieing so I want a replacement soon.

Didn't see a link to the listing? Like others said - need condition, service records, carfax, etc.

It has srt rim, don't really care for the look of them so would look into replacing them.

The car fax showered all the service record untill a year ago when the last owner bught it, all work was done at jeep dealerships.

Couple things I would check - turbo intake seal (orange or black), swirl motor status, elephant hose, catch can, etc Has swirl motor been replaced or has it been modified with a resistor or original. The probability of it failing is quite high if it hasn't already and at 123k I would expect it went and was either replaced or modified. Modified isn't bad I would just want to know that situation. I personally don't like to see de-badged vehicles when buying because it tends to mean someone has been modifying it - the problem is to what extent is hard to say (maybe just exterior looks like this one or maybe engine, other. Sure is in nice shape appearance wise. I agree though on the wheels - yuck for me but to each his own. One thing that is odd is the last owner ran it over 90k miles in 24 months but I didn't see oild change records. The price looks about right to me but I would just dig a little deeper for peace of mind.

If you truly want a CRD - and I can't fault you if you do as I own one as well - find a '08. As others have said, its night and day difference for the engine. You will have better luck for body bods on a '07, but the engine is far better with the newer model year. Depending on how far you want to travel, you might be able to acquire a lower mileage '08 for less money. Attached are a couple of links to some lower mileage CRD's. The first is in NJ, its a Overland with only 63K on the odometer(and it would have front and rear locking diffs).

Thoes 2008 look great. My issuie is prices, right now I have a great paying job but looking at trying to get a cop or firefighter job. Doing such will cut my income in half. And having a a payment of 350 will makes things more tight while going to the academy.

Just an FYI, that 08 overland in Jersey sold. I inquired about it a few weeks ago.

I would make sure there is limited rust on these...up north and you will have bolts stuck. Especially in the front suspension.

LJS8510 09-29-2013 06:47 PM

I would agree with going 2008.
If you are lowering your income I hope you realize that while most of our CRD's have good track records and we love them.
These engines are generally more expensive to fix than any of the other Grand Cherokee engines.

I just looked at an 2008 crd with 66000 miles, they wanted $19900. I had a look under the front and could see that the bell housing has oil on it. So either the turbo is leaking or the air intake tube. May be minor, but if the owner never did the elephant hose mod or i cannot confirm that the proper oil was used, then I have to assume that a clogged dpf soon and a swirl motor failure.
