Should i buy a commander

Well i currently have an 89 XJ 4.0L dana 30front(non disconect)/35rear(limited slip)/ NP424/ auto OD and 410 gears.

I have been looking for a newer jeep, but can only find junk! or way overpriced!

I have owned other 95 XJ / 98 TJ both 4.0L . not bad jeeps but I prefer my 89 XJ over both of them.

What my question is has anybody own or owned a Commander.
I am interested in buying one but dont have alot of info on them, i dont trust dealer web or mags.

If some one has more info or hands on info that would be great.
such as : are they good for off road,
what aftermarket stuff is out there?
and are they worth the $. or should i buy something else.

I check out some other theads and gas milage seems crapy.

Thanx

The underpinnings of the Commander are the same as (or very close to) the current Grand Cherokee (WK). Due to their similarities many aftermarket upgrades - intake, exhaust, lift kits, etc are available. Naturally, the price is similar as well - $ 30k US for a bare-bones V6 2WD model and it goes up fast from there.

The closest thing to your XJ is the KJ (Liberty), but you might also consider the 2007 Wrangler Unlimited (JK 4-door) once they become available in a few months.

IMO the only way to get decent fuel mileage in a WK or XK will be to wait until you can get one with a Mercedes diesel V6 - 19-20/26-27 (city/highway) instead of the 14-15/18-19 you would get with the V8.

the reason im not looking at the liberty is because it lokks like a sissy.

I like vehicles that have attitude, but also do what i need.

I'll remember you said that the first time you go to tow your boat, no balls, and isn't it a bit girlie, no dis intended on the female members but it's no Alpha.

I am not worried about towing anything, I just think the H3 looks
MUCH better than the Commander.

what's wrong with you IH8MUD? Are you in the wrong forum?
jeepdude, the commander rides like a cadillac compared to your xj, but cost quote a bit. The commander could be a variable capable offroader, but not a lot of aftermarket stuff out there yet, give it a year or two. For the price, I wouldn't take it off road much, but for a daily driver it's great for everything except the mileage.

One word, YES! I have had 2 XJs, 2 Grand Cherokees and now the Commander. I love it. I would take it over the Colorado, umm, I mean H3 any day.

I can not believe it

I just purchased the Commander Limited 4x4 Hemi power about 3 weeks ago.
It is amazing. I went to the Hummer dealership and it was a tossed between that and the Commander. Overall, the Quadra Trac II is so much better off road.

You get so much more equipment and options for the price.
The ride is smooth, navigation is awesome, all feature and comfort is amazing.

I plan to get the Air Intake, 3" superlift and the exhaust system in a few weeks or when the exhaust kits comes out.

This is my second Jeep and I always had a Chrysler product. Good Stuff if you take care of it.

NO. Do not buy the Commander. I have one and if more people start buying them I will no longer remain unique. Buy a Liberty instead. All the girls around here drive them.

My wife's KJ is going to get replaced with probably a Commander over the Grand Cherokee. What interests me in the Commander is the size, yet it's not too big, plus what it will tow. Right now I'd want the HEMI, but I'm not in a rush to buy, so I think I'll wait for the diesel. Plus I've got a truck stop near me, and diesel there is usually right around the price of unleaded.

I know the Grand Cherokee is getting the diesel in '07, but will the Commander as well?

If I had the money, I'd buy the Commander as another vehicle in the house. For some reason, not sure why, but I really like the Commanders.
