"Service 4WD System" - message

The "service 4wd system" message came on this morning. (2006 Grand 4x4 4.7L) I just changed all the fluids front to back 2 days ago. Have driven about 45 miles since the change. Any ideas what it might be. I put Mobile 1 Synthetic 75-140 in the differentials and the mopar transfer case fluid NV245/247/249 in the t case. Thanks for any advice!!

The battery was dead this morning also so I had to boost it. Now after a second trip the message is gone. Maybe something with the dead battery could have caused the meassage????

I think this is a gremlin in our Jeeps. If you do a search it seems others have had the same issue. My 06 does it about once every two weeks. Seems to come and go. I do believe some have found a fix.....again search and I think you can learn a bit more.

Regards

Mike

I had the 4 wd warning message once after doing some offroad. I Finished the little bit left of the trail then it shut down & restarted, it was fine ever since, even had dealer check it out they found nothing!

i had the same message after a dead battery about 2 months ago. Went away on the next startup as you described. I haven't had any problems/messages since.

Mine comes on only when I don't hit the remote start right. Goes off every time though.

Right after I got mine back from the dealer for it's routine oil change...had the same message for a couple days. Hasn't happened again though?!? Very odd at the least...

I used the exact same fluids for both the diffs (plus friction modifier additive) and TC on the XK, and the same warning message came on not long after that for me, too. I wonder if the ELSD solenoids do not like the Mobil 1 synthetic. I may try non-synthetic fluids on the next swap.

Already paid to have that TSB done. It did not help me.

I had the same message, pulled code "C141D" with my superchips - I ended up replacing the solenoid for the ELSD in the rear axle along with the wire harness and the message is gone now.

Parts were around $40 from the dealer and I changed it out when I replaced my diff fluid.

The service 4WD message could be a number of things though - try and get the code pulled from somewhere.

I was going to start with the rear ELSD solenoid, since that one looks easiest to do. I have already purchased solenoids for both the front and rear for a total of $47 shipped for both. I have them sitting in the attic waiting for the next fluid swap interval.

If the rear one does not do it, then I will do the front one. If those do not solve the problem, then I will take it in for diagnosis. I suspect that wiring would be the next issue in line.

Amsoil Synthetic in Everything

I have Amsoil in everything and have never had the Service 4wd light on. I get about 17-19mpg with the 5.7 on the highway at 70mph.

I don't think my warning message has anything to do with the fact that I use Mobil 1, because the solenoid in the front diff is still functioning just fine with M1 fluid. I actually think I could have just replaced the wire harness and not the solenoid itself, but figured I might as well do the whole she-bang just for piece of mind.
