Roof Leak

ok first off i want to say that
1- yes i have searched
2- i realize there are threads about this, but no one seems to respond in them

i know my roof is leaking i just dont know where from
i know there is a TSB but it is for older vehicles, i would prefer to not go to the dealer unless i have to

i siliconed the roof rack bolts, but i have not shot air through the sun roof drains, but i also NEVER use the sunroof, not for 6 months atleast

anyways i have taken pics of the water under the headliner
just wondering if anyone knows where it would be coming from

the water mainly comes out the passenger side A-pillar and the upper console
here is my upper console

this is the rear passenger door, i pulled down the weather stripping and the headliner, the stream is coming from the back

then i went into the back and pulled down the panels there to pull down the headliner and this is what i saw

i can reach my hand up under the headliner and the roof is soaking wet,,,
the sunroof seams to sit flush so what could it be!!!
maybe the rear drain?
the sunroof?

please help!!!

thanks

I would go after the sunroof first! The drain tube could come apart and be leaking. I have seen the rear side window leak before but that instance the water filled the second row floor boards not the headliner. Again drop the head liner which you'll have to pull the A pillar panels the grab handle and inspect and clear those drain tubes. this is assuming you've sealed all the screws in the roof rail propery.

Yea I might have to pull the headliner
I did get an 'aftermarket' warranty but the customer service hours suck
I will call them at lunch tomorrow

I might try again to pull off panels and check the rear sunroof drain like the TSB says

Just a huge pain in the *** for a relatively new vehicle

I know it stinks but lots of them leaked right of the line it's just one of those things we deal with

Yea its a *****, its only the passenger side so maybe ill trace the sunroof drains and maybe re-do the roof rack bolts

I've also tried the re-calibrate the sun roof
By holding the vent button for 5 seconds

so i pulled down my headliner like 50% of the way today
alltho it was sunny so there was no water under there

but due to last night i believe the leak is in the middle which i think may be from the sunroof basket

when i pulled my c-pillar there was no drain there, unless the drain goes behind the metal there..
this is bull**** lol

This was just posted about another jeep about a week ago. The problem was the drain tube that runs down the passenger a-piller plugs up.

More details on the thread, you'll need to search for it. The fix was unplug the drain tube.

my front drain tubes work like a charm

any idea how to unplug the rears? i dont find them when looking thru the sunroof hole
and they are routed into the sheet metal behind c-pillar

do u have to take down headliner and unplug the drain then blow air through it?

The Jeep is designed to leak. Jeep even has a patent on the new car leaking design.

Even my Rubicon leaked and Jeep has used that body style for years.

Mine was the drain tube, I used a compressor to blow them out. Now I do this at every oil change.

I tired that on my Rubicon and no deal.

After the money I spent on the lawyer as the dealer battled hard I ended up spending lots of money and no new Jeep or refund.

The water leak guys they hire are a hit or miss I guess. They put the jeep under a nozel spray system they can adjust to find leaks. The problem is your paying the guy to look for the leak and lots of times they say they fixed it but didn't. What I did was remove all the paneling where I thought the water was coming in at just expose the outer sheet metal. Then had my wife use a garden hose and start pouring water untill I saw water coming in and sealed leak. It's a PITA pulling all the panels out if you have never done but really its not that hard. I recomend you do this if blowing the rear tubes out doesn't work solve your problem. I'm almost never happy with the work someone else does on my vehicles and kick myself everytime I pay to have work done so I just try to do all my own stuff. I picked up a set of panel pulling tools in the bargin bin at northern tools for $7. Just use common sense and take your time you will be fine. Besides you can replace a lot of clips for the price of having them just taking a look at your jeep. Also pick up some mold bacteria spray and treat all the insulation and carpet while you have it apart so you don't get any smells down the road.
