Rear seat headrests and child seats

In my 98 GC, the headrest was upright and removable, there was plenty of room for the childs seat, (Britax Husky) on one side and I could lower the other side for luggage and stuff. Soft stuff of course ! But in my 05, the headrests lean forword and wont come out. Even in the highest position they prevent the child seat from resting flush against the seat back because the car seat is tall.

Am I over looking something here or is the only solution to buy a shorter car seat for my little girl. Or just keep it in the middle.

Right now I have the child seat mounted in the center seat position where there is no head rest but it blocks my view and makes it almost impossible for anyone to sit on either side of the rear seat. And I cannot lower either side of the 60/40 split rear seat. I know its a massave car seat but its the one I feel is the safest for my 5 year old and I dont want to have to buy a diffrent car seat.

Any advice ?

Tispco -

Please send me a PM on the rear headrests too. I am having a hard time with the child seats, and the headrest pushing out the top of the seat. Thanks!!!

Reclining helps, but not quite enough.

Thanks for the PM, Tispco.

How about putting the car seat in backwards? I've seen people do this some times.

*Reason 57 not to have kids - car seat problems.

Small infants and toddlers start out rear facing (backwards) up to a certain weight limit.

Then they become forward facing.

Probably has to do with neck strength, and the fact that a 3 year old would be pretty darn pissed if he/she had to sit facing the rear of the car.

Yes, let's hear it. Do you just take a flathead and pry off the circular cover plate at the base of the headrest tubes?

Sounds like a personal problem to me.

Well I have been looking into this and let me say that my WK has the automatic folding headrest thingie. So when I lower the seat the headrests automatically flip down. They are NOT adjustable in height that I can find, and the rear seat will not recline. Anyone have any other ideas ??

OK, I was searching for this exact same answer and stumbled across this post. So, if anyone can PLEASE explain how to remove the rear headrest from a 2006 Grand Cherokee Limited it would much appreciated. From the earlier post, it appears that it must be possible. I just got mine today (used and a pretty good deal, love it!) and unfortunately I have to wait for a few weeks for the user's manual which is on order. I'm not even sure the manual would help? So again, if someone knows how to remove the rear headrest please post how and I will be eternally grateful!

Jeff, when I fold my seats down the head rests stay flipped to the back when I raise the seat back up. Do yours also>?? That would seem to fix the deal.
