The reason you should use 5W30 Low SAPS european oil (Mercedes Benz 229.51) is that Excessive sulfated ash, phosphorus and sulfur (SAPS) in motor oil can harm modern exhaust treatment devices. Diesel particulate filters (DPFs), for example, require low-SAPS motor oil to resist filter plugging.
Personnaly I used Amsoil Low SAPS European Car Formula 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil that I change every 20,000 Km or a Year, I had analyse the oil after 16,000Km ( 10,000 Miles) and no problem, see the attach file Lab report that tell me the oil is still good and to have it retested in 7000 miles, that indicated 17,000 miles totals milage is realistic.
Personnaly for $50.00 for a Lab report I got the undisputed answer.
