question about recall symptoms

my wife's cherokee (2005 hemi) has the same symptoms as this recall, but we have been told our car doesn't qualify for this recall due to when it was built.

the other thought in my mind was torque converter. the car shudders around 35mph and 50mph. any thoughts on other possibilities?

Quote:
Recall ID # 56733 - POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION Hide Details
Recall Date:
SEP 14, 2005
Model Affected:
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Summary:
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 3.7L ENGINES AND NAG1 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS, THE AIR CONDITIONER EVAPORATOR CONDENSATE WATER MAY ENTER THE TRANSMISSION AT THE FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL. THIS CAN RESULT IN SHUDDER DURING TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT.
Consequences:
IT CAN LEAD TO INCREASED TRANSMISSION OPERATING TEMPERATURES, BOILING OF THE WATER, AND A SUBSEQUENT PURGING OF TRANSMISSION FLUID INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN AN UNDERHOOD FIRE.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION FOR LEAKAGE AT THE FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL. IF NO LEAK IS DETECTED, A NEW FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL AND WATER DEFLECTOR SHIELD WILL BE INSTALLED, AND PROPER ALIGNMENT OF THE FILL TUBE VERIFIED. IF THE PRESENCE OF A LEAK IS DETECTED, THE VEHICLE WILL BE EVALUATED FOR SHUDDER DURING TORQUE CONVERTER ENGAGEMENT. IF NO SHUDDER IS DETECTED, THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE TRIPLE FLUSHED, AND NEW FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL AND WATER DEFLECTOR WILL BE INSTALLED AND PROPER ALIGNMENT OF THE FILL TUBE VERIFIED. IF SHUDDER IS DETECTED, THE TORQUE CONVERTER WILL BE REPLACED, A NEW FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL AND WATER DEFLECTOR WILL BE INSTALLED, AND PROPER ALIGNMENT OF THE FILL TUBE VERIFIED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 31, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

So did you try to contact Chrysler like it says at the bottom of the recall? Maybe you can try and confirm if you have the newer grommet/deflector

If you have a Hemi, you don't have a NAG1 transmission.. THAT is why your vehicle doesn't qualify for the recall.

your 5.7L Hemi sits in front of a 545RFE transmission.

in 2005, the NAG1 (W5A580) was used only behind the 3.7L in the grand cherokee. It was never (to this day) used behind a 5.7L in a grand cherokee.

Just remember a 45rfe and the one we have the 545rfe is the SAME unit in the 1500, 2500 and 3500 hemi trucks.... its strong...very strong. In seven years I saw maybe 5 internal failures, a few front pumps that would leak down and have a delay going in to reverse when cold,f or maybe 5-10 seconds but these trans as a whole dont normally fail.

There was a problem with internal trans filters splitting at one time that caused simmilar problems . and the transmissions are sensitive to fluid level . make sure it's good and hot before checking the fluid and make sure it's full .
also , if you changed the transfercase fluid recently , mopar nv245 fluid should be used (so the clutches in there don't chatter) , not atf+4 like the nv140 that's used with the NAG 1.
