Problem with Sound System

My wife has indicated that our 08 Limited is having intermittant problems with the sound system where everything appears to be functioning but there is no sound. Displays indicate radio stations, cd's playing etc. just no sound. The next time she starts the jeep, everythings works again. Any idea? If I take it in to the dealer, will they attempt to fix if they cannot reproduce the symptom?

I had the same problem. When I took it to the dealer they determined that the head and amplifier were fried. They replaced the unit under warranty.

My guess to the cause is from water that had leaked into the area through the often referred to A-Pillar Leak.

The problem started with the one or two of the speakers not working, then they would work. Eventually all sound stopped while it appeared the system was working.

I think you have the same problem. In hindsight I would have asked the dealer for a credit towards an after market head like Alpine or Kenwood.

I contacted the dealership to find out what they would do in this circumstance. They indicated that they would check for software updates but if the issue does not occur in their presence, there is not much else they can do as replacing the head unit is around $4500.00. I asked if we take a video of the head unit acting up, if that would suffice and to my surprise, they indicated that they would accept this. So now my wife has a small video camera in the jeep just waiting for the next occurance.

I would imagine it needs a flash, the software needs to be updated. The dealer can do this even if it is not acting up at the time.

Had similar problems on my '08 REN radio. No A-pillar leak noted. Same report from the dealer: corroded connectors, bad amp, bad head. Several re-flashes performed since then.

Those particular symptoms have not returned.

$4500 for the head unit? Please tell me this was a typo. If not I'd go to a different dealer. That's insane

Not a typo but I don't know if that's an accurate amount but somehow it wouldn't surprise me if it was accurate.
