painting the steering wheel

So I posted a thread earlier about painting the plastic interior. Now I want to know about the steering wheel. I watched a video of painting a steering wheel lastnight. Looks pretty easy.

But what I need to know, is can I take the steering wheel apart without messing up the air bag. Mine is a biege color. I want the steering wheel black and just the air bag portion to be a metallic orange.

Any suggestions on this?

I see that you have a Hemi...isn't your steering wheel leather or vinyl?

the person before me must of had a wrap on the steering wheel and it is all discolored and sticky now. its like a yellowish color. So I have to keep a cover on it. I hate covers

I was just looking at videos again. And came across leatherseats.com and they can rewrap the steering wheel just like factory. I'm thinking of just doing that so I can have the top and bottom black and sides orange all with orange thread....mmmhmmm
