Opinion: 07 vs 08 GC CRD

Other than a few interior tweeks and the obvious different nose, are there any significant differences between the 07 and 08 Grand Cherokee Diesels? Any reason to avoid buying an 07? Nothing on the horizon (yet) just asking.

Thanks, Bernie

If you can get your mitts on either one that has reasonable service record as well as okay mileage for the price get it. I have an 07 limited and not a bit of issue other than normal maintenance and everyone wants to buy it - gas stations/tire joint/dealership when I take in for service. I bought my wife a 2010 Commander and will say that "happy" electronics are much better year over year so the GPS/NAV is way better within even a few years but if you are worried about mechanics all of the clean up corrections TSBs from 07 to 08 are in place as far as I know. All comes down to how it was serviced..... for example.... I change my oil from receiving it every 6250 regardless of towing or schedule and should be 12,500 miles..... it's a spoiled baby in terms of service so be sure to check service records

If you can get yourself into a 08 I def would! The 08 interior revisions as well as the front end refresh are worth it imo! Its a matter of choice of course I have 05 3.7 but you prob get a few more creature comforts in the 08+. CRD prob is fully loaded anyway but I would still go for the 08.

Like said before it comes down to how it was serviced a stout 07 I would take any day over a questionable 08!

The wkjeeps website can show you the features between model years as there are a number of differences between a 2007 wk and a 2008 wk. If you are asking about differences in the CRD engine between model years then there are not many, but sometimes parts do differ eg the rear main seal is different, not sure why.

I agree with all those who say go for the 08.
In 2007 I waited a year before I bought mine because of the added features of the 08's like my gig nav, remote start, ac inverter, heated front & rear seats, hill assist, new dash, HID headlights, ugly seats. I 'm not sure I remember all correctly but I felt it was worth it at the time and still feel that now.

Like other said you can check for yourself at

I have the 07 CRD and zero problems with it. I looked at 08's, but they wanted way too much for them with low miles. There are the interior differences which would be nice, but not 100% necessary.

Hi. Just wanted to say thanks for all the replies. That website for the WK's is awesome and explains alot. Ive noticed the 07's going for almost the same price as the 08"s. Loaded 7's have almost the same options as the 8's and some you can get just from getting an aftermarket radio sytem. I see the 13's will have a diesel so we'll see how many 08 owner will be selling their GC's.

I am somewhat biased having an 08, but all of the additional features are very nice to have. Also an 08 is going to have 1 less year or wear on it as well. If the price is close I would choose an 08 everytime.

My wife has 07 Overland 2wd. I have 08 Ltd 4 Wd. 07 has more features like Uconnect. 08 has better interior like button locations. 07 seems quicker maybe cuz lighter weight of 2WD.

Both motors look identical but I trust SuzueQ who notes differences. 07 has 58k miles. 08 has 42 k miles. No swirl issues yet but gonna get the green Eco tune for both someday.

We love them both. Interesting note: the 08 was built only a month and a half later than the 07.
