One for One Audio Amp Upgrade?

So I've been reading about possible one for one swaps for my stock audio amp. My reading has turned up some candidates but no words like "direct replacement." So has anybody done an upgrade to a higher output amp by simply replacing the factory amp? If so, what product did you use and how do you like the results?

I went to the Mopar website. The Kicker upgrade for the GC produces 28W x 8 channels (speakers) for 4 ohm impedence and 46W x 8 channels for 2 ohm impedence. That's RMS or "working" watts per channel, 368W overall. The Boston Acoustics premium sound system we have is overall rated at 285W x 6 channels (speakers). At $185 the Kicker is cheap enough. The Edmund's writeup for the 2005 GC panned the whole Jeep interior and rated the Boston premium sound system at 6 of 10. Has anyone done this upgrade? What do you think?

I upgraded all my speakers to the kicker replacements, but not the amp. I think there are a few different kicker amps, one being a 6 channel replacement.

I've also been debating about upgrading to the kicker setup. But I have a set of jl xr speakers and a 500.1 jl amp sitting in my closet that I think I should use first.
