Thank you! I've looked at a few places with no luck but sounds like I need to go on a little hunt.

It is the same expanded sheet that most have used only it is the 3/4" instead of the 1/2". It comes in a sheet twice the size so you only need one. I had to go to 1 Lowes and 3 Home Depots before I found some, and they only had one sheet!

I was in the same boat. HD and Lowe's didn't have any. I found it at Sear's hardware.

Ok here you go! As I said these are 1/4" x 1.5" stainless screws. Here is an extra I have:

From the back side:

You can still see them if you look from the side just right.

I thought about trimming the washers so they wouldn't be visible from the front, but then I decided to just paint them black to blend in. I don't even notice them unless I am really looking.

Thanks Nate. I went with carriage bolts and I think they are too big.

I finished my new to me gas door today! Before I could bring myself to scratch up such a pretty chrome finish with sandpaper, I had to tell myself that it would look even better once it was painted just right I think the convincing paid off!

Here it is when I got it with a pretty mirror finish:

After I took sandpaper to it:

And once it was finished:

I used the same graphite paint that I always have. Before painting I used some tape and a scapulae to mask off the bold heads and the channel they sat in to keep them chrome. I applied the primer and paint, then unmasked it, and applied the clear. I can't wait to put it on the Jeep tomorrow! I love the way it turned out

Dude - Nathan! I was sitting, staring at my Gas door when I was finishing up my sliders thinking... "what else Can I paint while i'm here" And I stared REALLY hard at the gas door lol - I really need to do my expanded sheetmetal mod. But I'm going to be moving back to Raleigh over the next few weeks. So most of my Jeep plans are put on hold.

I was thinking about painting the 6-slot grill black, but the sheetmetal to match the body color of the Jeep.

Ya it is a cheap mod so just do it AJ! I will have pics of the gas door up later so you can see if that is something you will like too. I love it when khaki guys try things like this because then the other khaki guys can get a real feel for how it would look on theirs.
