OME rant, JC

so as im piecing together my OME lift, which will save me prob around $250 or so when its all said it done... got the springs used and the rear shocks used witha couple miles on them. now when im going to purchase the front struts, damn things cost almost as much as paid for the springs and the rear shocks!! WTF.

im half tempted to use my bilsteins i have installed, but i would rather just do it right this time around while its all apart and everyone says they are valved for the springs so why not...

anyone else find that rediculous...?

I have OME shocks in the back, and bilstiens up front, solely because of price...

OME struts are outrageous

I find that while slightly pricey..now that i have it all togther i am pleased. Its something I am going to use for the next 60k plus miles and 5 plus years the cost is just not that serious. I don;t mind paying more for good quality products as long as they hold up to their reputation and last..which they seem to do very well.

You get what you pay for. Since you've already saved a bit by buying used springs and rear shocks, use that saving and buy new front shocks.

Basically..Cars and trucks as a hobby are not cheap..its pay to play. So if you want to play with nice stuff..then its time to pay lol. And the best part I love that my wife *****es about all the time is when she says.." and you spend all this money on pointless stuff for you cars/trucks/motorcycles/boats..and then when you goto sell them bc you get bored with them it usually takes away from the value" ahahaha. I just say yeah..but it gives me something to do on the weekend

parox, being the guy that sold you the springs, I can tell you that the front struts are indeed beefy and built for the HD springs. They are well made and if you don't want to have to replace the struts at let's say 25k miles due to failure then go with the OME struts. I am actually running them with stock front springs and I love the way the vehicle handles. Feels planted when I hit small bumps in the road and not like some bouncy cushy lincoln town car.

OME drawbacks

I am new so forgive my confusion.

When I lifted an XJ I found that I needed more than just shocks and springs.
Drop pitman arm, adjustable trackbar, dropped sway bar links, etc.

Will you need to get these or other parts to make it right too?

TC

You had a solid front axle on your XJ. WKs are IFS (independent front suspension) ... complete mess of other issues when you go over 2.5"-3" of lift. I should clarify. The steering setup is different as well due to the IFS, so no drop pitman arm needed. Sway bar extended links aren't necessary with 2.5" of lift. For the rear: yes a rear adjustable trackbar can help a bit, but isn't necessary with just the OME lift.

Thanks for the info, good to know that it's less hassle with the IFS.

paroxysym.... (great name) How much lift do you think you'll get with this setup?

thanks! lol.

um im hoping to sit at 3 with new spring isolators and the HD coils. if you were looking for more than 3' but less than 4"- you can stack the OME kit. not recommended by most- but some get away with it without any problems.
