oil leak in 3.0 crd diesel
hi, this is my first post so bare with me.
my GC CRD 2006 has an oil leak. Its showing up at the front/left of the engine sump. My local garage cannot locate it. i had the turbo air intake seal replaced some months ago with the modified one even though there was very little oil leaking from it. my local mechanic does not think it coming from the 'V' area of the V6. i checked around the oil filter cap but it looks dry. now anybody know where it might be coming from. its only a small drip, but want to sort it out before it gets worse.

Hi
you say you have had the new seal can you confirm it's the modified pipe that was fitted no just the seal replace? New pipe will have a black seal. when you say left front is this alternator side or air con side?

This will sound stupid. The oil fill cap must be installed with the correct orientation. Its easy to put on backward and it even looks like it seals. But if its 180 degrees off, it will leak a lot of oil. This has happened to several of us. I felt like an moron when I finally saw what the problem was.
Of course your leak might be something else. The dealer or mechanic can put dye in the oil and then use a light to find leaks.

thanks for the reply guys, my broadband has been down all weekend so sorry for the late reply.
I had the modified pipe and seal fitted. When i say its leaking from the front/left side i mean the side that the oil filter is on. i just checked the oil cap and the writing is not upside down. (the arrow is nearest to the front of the vehicle.) so am i right in saying it's on the correct way? I'd say its been leaking for a long time looking at the oil residue on the oil pan. but not leaking much. |

Well that is where the drain for the V is, any chance it is just what was left over from the leak you would have had with the old pipe? is there any oil over the swirl motor? And you can see a black seal in the intake not an orange one. most other components are pressure feed so you would have a bigger leak. I take it it's not leaking from the oil filter?

from what i can see of the swirl motor it seems ok. but i cannot be 100% sure. how can i check its condition without a strip down of parts?
plus the new black seal seems to be holding up well with no leaks. the oil filter cap seems ok, no leaks around there either. my local mechanic thinks the sump has been off at some point. i can only assume it had a leak before as it had a faulty sump gasket or they thought it had a faulty gasket. i guess this was before they came out with a modified inlet pipe and seal that goes into the turbo. is there a simple way to check for an oil leak within the 'v' of the block before getting it stripped down? everything else about the GC is faultless, i'm really pleased i went for it, how long i keep the motor depends on this oil leak issue! |

I had a pretty severe oil leak, that started off as a small drip but then increased to a hemorage. When I took it to the dealer, they put dye in the engine and determined that the Oil Cooler was not torqued properly. Replaced gaskets, seals and rebuilt. It was a pretty involved job, good thing it was still under warranty.
I don't seem to have any leaks now, I just seem to burn a bit of oil. However, I have not installed the CCV Filter yet. |
