not sure how i could be more upset. need to vent

I bought a lifted 2006 overland WK in march with about 60k on it. ARB bull bar, warn winch, etc.

Well, about 6k and one oil change later, something caused the #4 cylinder to destroy itself.

Smashed the ends on the plugs, what the shop calls a indentation on the face of the piston from a valve, walls are scored, and piston has a gap against the wall where I guess it cracked or otherwise broke somehow.

Like 8500 fix. 3rd party Warranty will cover it if it originated in the engine, but not if it was foreign.

I have not even replaced the air filter yet so I can't imagine that I allowed something into the engine.

I have never seen anything like this in such a new engine. Any opinions? :/

I bought it from a medium size Toyota dealer. Fwiw

It's not a new engine, it has 66,000 miles on it. The previous owner may have used and abused it.

A lot of times that's when they get traded in, when people see a big problem arising. They dump it off onto somebody else.

Drop a new motor in, what else can ya do. Bummer, but it happens.

Oh, BTW. Upset about my jeep. I am not very real-life upset. Yet.

a river crossing would do that ..... and that is probably what they will be checking for "water in the intake".

Likely they will find something "let loose" like a timing chain or gear tooth or valve clips or what ever ... lots of parts.

I wouldn't worry about it ...

Ha. I am hoping that is the case. But like you said; bummer.

$8500? Good lord man. You could almost buy a crate block for that much. Any junk yards around you could pull a motor from? Hell, if it'll cost that much to fix, might as well bore and stroke it!

but given the choice would you go 392 or would you rebuild a 4.7 with all the new 4.7 goodies out on the market? lol, i know its a no brainer but i was just thinking outside the box. plus looking on the air ram website, theres alot of crap going out for the 4.7- intake manifolds, rods, pistons, etc..

but given the OP has a hemi, may as well go bigger
