No EVIC "Fuel Saver Mode" message on 2009 Overland

I just bought a 2009 GC Overland and on the EVIC message for the miles per gallon, I believe it should say Fuel Saver Mode above it when the engine is only running on 4 cylinders. On my 2008 Overland the message always displayed, but on this one, I never get the message. My dealer told me he thought that Chrysler took the message out of the software for some reason but that doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone help me on this? I used the message to get better mileage. Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim
I have a 2007 GC overland 5.7 Hemi - I have never seen that message on my display. That would be a great message if they did that - I am interested to see if somebody response to your message.
thanks
Bill

unless i am wrong, 2008 was the 1st year they added the "FUEL SAVER" message to the EVIC message display when the MDS goes into 4-cylinder mode.....it's been a useful bit of info and i'm glad my '08 has it, so if they indeed eliminated it for 2009, i agree that would be a dumb move.

maybe this has something to do with the new 5.7L Hemi for 2009.....it's now got variable valve timing, so obviously this would require new engine management software, and maybe a deletion of the fuel saver message was part of the revision? just a guess.

Thanks, I've been waiting over a week for a response from Chrysler and if they ever get back to me I'll post it.

I've seen the "fuel saver" screen on 2009's.

Make sure you have the "Display Eco Symbol" on in personal options. Because it should when the Temp is displayed it should show "ECO" in the display as well when in MDS mode.

No EVIC "Fuel Saver Mode"

I just bought a JGC Overland with the 5.7 Hemi. I cannot find any fuel saver message light. I just went through all of my personal settings. There is no "Display ECO Symbol" option. I only have the Jeep 5 days. But I did find a supplement to my owners manual about MDS. It says, that if the battery was disconnected, it may take awhile for that option to come back. It makes no sense to me. Either you have it or you don't. I do know that the battery was disconnected while on display in the showroom. I also found out that my Overland was an early production 2009. It was delivered to the dealership in September of 2009.

If anyone hears anything about this problem, please post it. It would be nice to know when the system is in 4 cylinder mode. I will keep watching this forum.

I just got off the phone with Chrysler Corporate Customer Service in Michigan. The person was very polite but gave me some bad news. He said that for some unknown reason, the "Fuel Saver" message was removed from the EVIC on the 2009 GC 5.7 liter Hemi and that he was informed that there were no software/firmware updates planned to correct this blunder (my word). He assured me that the MDS does work, but we just don't know when it does.

Regards

Jim

I really wish I could see the versions of the CCN software you guys have.

I can look up what I have at work on Monday. It is possible that they removed it before serial production (the cars I am in are usual pre-production units).

Thanks, but even if you find out what the software version is, I don't see how we could upgrade ours.

I can ask around, might be a way to "re-add" is. Sometimes these things are not really gone, but just "hidden"

I have had my 2009 WK Limited w/ 5.7 Hemi since last December. It has never displayed "ECO" ever! No options in the EVIC to select it either. It would be great if this feature worked as it states in the OM.

I agree, and now I wrote a letter to Chrysler because I not only found the reference to ECO in the manual, but also in their online advertising. I've pasted the link. This is really unacceptable.

Today I got a call from a very nice woman in their Consumer Relations department. She told me that for a period during the 2009 production run (I'm not sure how long), the "Fuel Saver Mode" was for some reason disabled. She talked to senior people working on the EVIC and was told that there is no way they can provide a fix for the issue. I believe she really tried and again she was very polite. If that is the only issue I end up having with my Overland, I'm not going to complain. I really like the vehicle.

Regards
