NEW CRD OWNER My thoughts

OK Gentlemen,

Now that i have actually picked up my Jeep i just have to post this......Initial imperssion...........

THIS S.O.B. RUCKING FOCKS............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off, i have never looked at a Jeep twice. I always thought if you wanted to go 4 wheelin, get a jeep, otherwise look else wear...

I mainly bought this GC because on paper by the specs it suited my needs. ABLE TO TOW 7K LBS, GET OVER 20 mpg, decent get up and the option list was long. Then i found my CRD on the web and it was CHEAP.

So now i have had it 2 days and i have nothing but huge Smiles on my face.

there is a couple quirks .
the lag in the Drive by wire. It makes me skittish to jump out in traffic. my first hour of driving and i almost looped the truck due to the rain and the sudden snap of power. i tried the throttle recalibration........not much change.

The brakes to me Work great, but i'm not used to the extra effort needed to get this rig to slow down.... Keep in mind my previous car was a Mazda speed 3, stopped on a dime.

My front power windows work, but just seem weak. the rears work much faster nad with more atthority.

The oil in the intake........HOLY SMOKES that CCV really works the intake over with all that oil. I had already bought a Racor and figured i would throw it on from the get go. Save me some hassle later down the road. It is also a good thing i checked the intake since the entire intake tube, maf and all the clamps were loose. Apparently SOMEONE had been under the hood and forgot to tighten the hose clamps. wierd....

Otherwise.......... i absolutely love the GC.

Mines a 2007 Green CRD 2x4 Limited... one of the "fuel contaminated" jeeps. Still has warranty, had 223 miles on it, now has 450, still have 1/2 a tank of fuel. Hell i got sirius radio for 1 year free since it was never used back in 07. I bought the truck for just under 1/2 of the listed sticker for 07.......to me thats a smoking deal.

MODS......Had it 27 miles and ditch the resonator in the exhaust. Looks better with dual out chrome tips... Power gain, heck if i know.
Installed the racor filter..... little bit a pain with 90*'s and various pipe sizes, but its in and works well.

Next mod will be the inmotion tune.. i'll give feedback when i get it.

One last note to my mile long Posting..........

Last night i got into a little run with a 09 crew cab hemi 1500....yea he had another passenger and a little bit of stuff in the back, but nothing too crazy. he tried to race ahead of me to beat some construction work and instead i got the jump and was first. at the next light we paired up talked for a bit and let er rip on the green... i had the CRD already against the converter to bypass that lag in the DBW... and we were off

i held a solid one car lead right away and was there till about 80 mph, then here he came, slowly but surely and passed me by 90mph........ then i let up. Its no racer, but i love the TORQUE

I'M impressed for sure... MAN I LOVE MY JEEP..........

Congrats on your new CRD,
Once it loosens up at about 45,000 miles you will really be cheering.

45000 (72000km) miles to loosen up, wow, I am at 16000km and already averaging 26-27 (imp)mpg on the highway. 30 was the best. (that 23 average and 25 best converted to us gals)

New purchase this past week as well. Moved up from an 03 TJ (couldn't handle minor hockey...)

24 imp MPG out of the box on the drive home. With all the discounts, couldn't beat the value! Overland with everything, just missing power liftgate!

I've found that after driving my CRD for almost 20,000km you just get a feel for it, the only time it jumps around is when I want it to.

I guess I should finally get on installing my Racor too. Just need to make an L bracket for the install and away I go.

What makes our CRD's lag at the red light is not the throttle lag, it is exhaust restriction, making our engines half suffocated.
Learn to apply throttle slower, yet more precisely and you will kill anything that moves. Just today some little chick was trying to jump ahead of me entering freeway in her X3, I ended that and lost her at 95mph in about 4 seconds

Yeah, exactly, learn how the vehicle likes to be driven and it'll work just fine. On another note finally got the Racor installed today, lol. Gutted the turbo resonator thing the other day and noticed all the oil, figured it was a sign to get the Racor done, lol.

I drain Racor every tank of fuel and find exactly the same amount of oil, about 1.5 table spoons. Imagining that this amount of build up adds to my intake every 420 miles is very disturbing, even though I am sure that I am not gonna own my CRD for more than 2-3 years, still does not feel right.

I'd like to set up a catch can so I can drain every oil change. After tearing apart the turbo silencer and taking a look there must have been 3-4 tables spoons collected in that thing. I'd hate to see what sits in the intercooler.

I picked up mine on eBay from user 4land4sea. Doesn't look like he has the same unit available right now, but if you sent him an email I'm sure he could get back to you. I think that's what I wound up doing. I can't remember if it's the CCV3500 or CCV3550, but they're both pretty much the same, one in for continuous duty and the other for intermittent, I chose intermittent. Then you need a few feet of 3/4" tubing, some 90° fittings, some 1" hose, maybe a 1" to 3/4" reducing coupling or a 1" to 3/4" reducing elbow.

Kind of a thread hi-jack, but appears to be heading this way.

Am very knew to the whole diesel thing. The whole Racor/Provent thing I find very interesting. Is it really required? Why would DC/MB/Jeep not install one in the first place as the cost and required engineering efforts appear to be very minimal. I would think that the tolerances on the 3.0 to be substantially tighter than bigger/older diesels? Anyone with powerstoke/cummings experience on how much oil gets ingested?

Now, don't get me wrong. Things get missed in engineering and design. I fly an aircraft that has a fairly substantial modification to ease stresses on the tail due to an oversight during design.
