I just recently purchased an '05 Grand Cherokee Limited and am loving it so far. The only issue that I have, is that the NAV system isn't working. It keeps telling me error reading disc. I took the NAV DVD out and inspected it, reloaded it, and same error message. I am looking at maybe just replacing it with a new system entirely. Questions I have are this....the jeep is equipped with the rear dvd system from the factory. if I buy an aftermarket nav system, will this rear VES work with it? And by work, I mean will it hookup and play audio through the stereo speakers like it currently does with the factory REC NAV installed?

I havent tried to fire my VES system up with my radio disconnect, but i can tell you the audio will NOT play through an aftermarket system. If it still powers up, which from what I hear, it does, you will be limited to headphones. also, you will need a canbus interface in order to turn on the factory and use an aftermarket interface to keep you steering wheel controls. Also, if you have unconnect or sirius, you will have to replace them with aftermarket modules.

I wanted a nice nav too so I got the mygig its the newer one of yours and they started putting them in the 2007, ontop of all the features your REC has it also has a hard drive to copy your music to and has a usb port and an aux port. The adapter let's you hook up the mygig to a pre-2007 and makes video viewable while driving. The adapter would also work with your rear dvd system. Ill warn you though it gets pretty expensive. You could aslo buy a new nav disc off ebay for like $10 or $20 and try that

I purchased a Low Speed MyGig unit off ebay and LockPik from Coastal with the plans to update my Nav unit, but it's still sitting since I bought it. I'm probably going to post it on ebay next week. I even bought the two back up cameras too.
If you are interested in it, let me know.

The RER units alone are going for $615 on ebay. You would need the lock pick adapter $230 and new gps antenna $40 too.
I haven't decided if I'm going to sell all three items for one price or separate.
That's not inlcuding the two back up cameras $90 each I have too, which are optional.
