All,

I'll be buying a Commander once we find the right one for us. I can't find anywhere in the thread... What is the ID # of this recall? I want to make sure I can locate the exact recall notice, so I can know if the Commander we buy will had this recall done or not ... So I know how to manage the sale with that info in mind. Thx

My wife and I bought a 2006 Commander in early September, I put it in 4Low during our test drives, no error messages. Had a Jeep dealer pull the VIN history and the recall was performed in August.

After reading this thread I am now scared to put in 4 Low!!! I will have no recourse if the recall messed up the actuator.

I should probably try shifting it into 4 Low again before I NEED 4 Low this winter, better to have than not.

I know, but I thought that was the "street name" for it and not the actual Chrysler ID for it hehe

What good is a tow vehicle if you can't tow it?

Same story as others .... N23 recall applied then a week later find I can't shift xfer case into neutral due to 'Service 4wd System' fault. Take it back to dealer for a reflash and all is well again. That was a month and one successful tow trip ago. So last week I load the kayaks on the Jeep roof rack, load the bikes on the back, load all the equipment inside, hook the Jeep to the motorhome, and finally, go to shift the xfer case into neutral only to have the 'Service 4wd System' fault reappear. So much for that trip! Never had a 4wd issue before N23 applied. This is my fifth consecutive Grand Cherokee which will be my last GC if Jeep doesn't come up with a solution on their dime soon.

Service 4Wd Error - after N23 Recall

Make sure that the dealer follows the instructions given. "Three time clear DTCs" etc.
After doing so with my '05 GC ltd 4.7 I've had no problems.

I can't believe the N23 "fix" caused other problems for starters after reading pages of multiple members with 4lo issues. I believe I have the same problem with the Service 4wd system light coming on after I had the N23 recall installed. 2 questions: Since getting the recall done, I have installed the AEV module w/ lift kit to compensate for bigger tires. Do I need to reset the AEV module before I bring the Jeep back to dealer to address the recall / 4WD system error? Secondly, will the dealer "un-install" the N23 recall if I tell them to? Is it possible? I'll sign a waiver or whatever, I'll take my chances like others here with setting the parking brake instead of a recall that causes other problems. I can't live without 4lo. And I really don't want to be forced to check 4lo every week and continue to go back to dealer to fix the issue like others here. If the N23 is causing other issues, Jeep needs to own up and provide a working solution without the need for multiple trips to the dealer for same issue.

In my opinion, I believe the recall has exposed bad T-case shift actuators as part of the problem.

More then likely. They replaced my actuator and it still doesn't work. Could have used 4 low at deer camp this weekend. It became a toad strangler and the roads were nothing but gumbo. AWD did just fine though.
But I still want my 4wd Low for when the snow and ice get here. I live on a big hill with a steep driveway to get out to the road.

Sorry to hear that. What is their plan? Will they order another one, and have you spoken to Jeep about this? I believe yours is the only case I'm aware of where an actuator replacement didn't fix the problem. Like I said in previous posts, the first actuator my dealer had ordered was cancelled by Chrysler, and another one was back ordered. My dealership told me that the actuator Chrysler cancelled was defective, and Chrysler didn't want any more of them on the street. Makes me think your dealer gave you the defective actuator.
