Mystery sound and drive shaft removal questions.

So a few weeks ago my 05 WK 4x4 started making a strange sound. It started as just a vibration and I ruled it out as a bad muffler because I crushed mine trail riding. Today it started making a loud metal thuding noise but only under acceleration. I got home and noticed that the cv joint for the front drive shaft on the transfer case side looked like it had separated around the little rubber dust cover. Well i've taken the drive shaft off and thought I could drive it around and see if thats what was causing the noise. But now my Jeep wont move at all, in drive or in reverse. Is this normal?

Common issue, if you do a search there are about 20 threads on it.

The transfer wont allow you to drive without a shaft in unless you are in low range.

The CV end on the front shaft (transfer case end) is a common failing, and can be found online (drivelineparts etc) very cheaply and replaced with a pair of side cutters and circlip pliers. Or you can get onto Jay as he is getting DC uni joint front shafts made up.

Its worth checking the front diff bushses as well, as they flog out and help to cause this issue. Once the boot is split they dont last long at all.
