I have an 05 WK.. The brakes are mushy and terrible. Is this common?? What do I need to do to remedy this problem!??

Sounds like you need your brakes serviced

No car should have "horrible, mushy" brakes.

Fluid looks good? When were your rotors, and pads done last? Last time actual brake fluid was replaced? Miles on vehicle?

Brakes and pads look good. Fluid isn't bad at all.. I checked it all. Some seem to just be worse than others on some models of cars. I've heard from others at work that the WK and commander break packages suck. I just sold my '11 liberty and those brakes were grossly undersized. Anyone change them with slotted rotors or anything?

Changing my pads to a higher grade ceramic helped a lot. I know many that have put new slotted rotors from Stillen or r1 concepts. I will be switching to the r1's when mine get warn down more. Kolak usually has some pretty good prices on the Stillen rotors. Add a good quite ceramic pad and you should be set!

As Kolak said, better brake pads/rotors will help. But keep in mind, these are WK's, not exactly a high-performance brake setup out of the factory (excluding SRT). It won't stop as quick as a smaller SUV like the Liberty. These bricks weigh a ton, and the best thing to do is buy good rotors and pads.

I have basic rotors (advance auto parts) and RockAuto pads (Evolution Ceramics). They work pretty well, but no doubt it could be better, but that's also hardware more than just pads and rotors. The Brembos on an SRT are crazy compared to these stock calipers. Get better rotors and pads to see if that helps, but you might have an underlying issue if they're THAT bad.

Maybe check the rubber lines and make sure none are swelling from fluid leaking between the layers of the line.

Question for Kolak, and anyone else with Stillen rotors, do the Stillen rotors have issues with warping?

I'm a big fan of EBC brake pads. I have them on my car, SUV and motorcycle. Much better than the stock pads!

No issues with warping with the Stillens - they only use the best quality one-piece cast rotor blanks.

Thanks everyone!! I'm glad it's not just me that thinks the brakes suck. I mean I know this isn't a sports car and all and it's a heavy ***** but the stock ones suck balls!!

i have a set of thermoquiet pads and wherever rotors from advance all around on my moms WK with some DOT4 brake fluid in it and it stops on a dime

r1's are a solid choice, that's what I'm currently rocking on my rig. (r1 slotted/drilled + wagner thermoquiet)

very happy with the improved performance over the worn out stock setup. plus, the slotted/drilled rotors do look pretty badass.

Really dunno what all the fuss is about with the stock brakes on these WKs. I never found an issue with either of the WKs brakes we've had. On the '06 I swapped out the rotors and pads at around 60K miles IIRC - oe style replacements - did great. On our '07 I swapped in new oe style pads when I bought it (~53K miles) and kept the stockers until this summer (~70K miles). I put Centric rotors and Akebono pads on this go around - far less coin than Stillens - never had an issue.

I've wheeled it moderately, heavily, Offroad Parks, very steep CO trails, hauled with it, pull my XJ on a 16' tandem axle with it - no problems, no squeaking, no squishing, never had an issue stopping when I needed to.
