+- Manual Shifting not working.

I recently purchased a WK which seems to have a few problems. It currently drives and shifts smoothly; however, when trying the + or - features to manually go into a lower gear it doesn't do anything. Is this just the shifter module or is something wrong with the transmission?

Probably the shifter assembly is shot. You can find them at salvage yards for fairly reasonable price. I would see if there are any codes in the tcm first

If you don't mind, I'll piggy back on your topic

I have a 07 Laredo WK CRD with QD2 (Canadian) with 210,000 Kms ( only 10k of those are mine) and today I noticed the GC was not shifting properly, like if it was starting from second or third gear. I stopped and tried to shift gears, I noticed the reverse wasn't engaging and it was not downshifting from D using the + /- stick. This is the second time it has happened.
My questions are:
Is this an known issue for the WK?
Is this a sign for a serious transmission issue?
Thanks!

I, too, would guess the shifter assembly/electronics are bad.

The transmission shifts through the gears appropriately otherwise?

You both probably have separate issues. iamrunao how old is your battery? My shifter stopped working when my battery was failing, put in new battery and all went back to normal. If battery over 5 years old change it. There is also a post somewhere showing how to clean the contacts in the shifter with rubbing alcohol. It involves dismantling the shifter to access the board.

PDragon; check your fluid level first, you will need to buy the special Miller dipstick tool or similar. https://millerspecialtools.service-s...il.aspx?id=847. I noticed in cold weather sometimes the tranny is slow to engage. Was it really cold when this occurred? With the mileage you are at you may want to have the tranny flushed and the filter changed if not already done. Here again if the battery is old start there, I had all kinds of weird electrical issues when mine was failing leading to eventual no-start.

Sounds like the esm shifter module, they can be stripped down and checked out pretty easily. There is a good clip on youtube covering the removal and cleaning.

Radcrd, thanks for the info! It is quite cold these days, around -20c. New liquids and maybe a new battery sounds better than a new transmission

Hey before you scrap the unit, try picking up a can of electrical contact cleaner. I had the same problem as you, but cleaning off the entire unit seemed to do the trick. Hope you find a solution!

I'll check the year of the battery, but I assume it's the shift assembly. It is missing the cover that keeps the dust out, so I imagine it may be kind of gunky down there. The previous owner wasn't exactly a clean person. Appreciate the help everyone.

Also, anyone happen to have an extra dust cover for the shifter? Id rather not have to buy a whole other module. Any ideas on how to get a replacement?
