Maintenance Questions 3.7 WK

These questions came about after I downloaded the pdf. file for WK maintenance manual. I have an 08 WK Larerdo with 3.7., Q1
First the main. manual definitely states to use 5w-30 in 3.7 and 5w-20 for V-8 yet my owners manual states to use 5w-20 and oil cap states 5w-20. Why the discrepancy?

Second is that the main. manual refers to lubricating an upper knuckle ball stud but I cannot see that in owners manual lube recommendations. Is that only in certain models?

I am light duty use and transmission oil change for that in manual shows it at 102k or 5 years. Transfer case and axles seems to be every 30K. Sound right?

Yes the miles reccomendation for the trans and axles sounds good. You should check their condition more often though.

5w20 was adopted for increased mpg's. You can use either. Both oil viscosities will work fine.

Thanks for the reply. What about this upper knuckle ball stud. Has that been eliminated as a grease point on later WKs?

No grease fittings on the WK. Everything's sealed and lifetime lubed.

If you're looking at the 05 FSM that's floating around, some of it's copied and pasted from the WJ. When in doubt, check twice and assume it's wrong.

Thanks. Yes the FSM I have was downloaded from someone who put it on the forum. I could not find a date on it which is why I thought the grease fitting might have been eliminated. Glad I do not have to worry about that. It also might explain why 5w-30 oil is recommended in the FSM and not in my owners manual.

My mileage intervals are pretty much the same......However, Personally, I'd shorten the interval on the tranny fluid. I do mine at 60k. IMHO 100k is way to many miles.
It's an easy pan drop and filter change.

Be sure to double check the T-Case fluid recommendation. I just found out the other day, the service manual says 245/247/249 specific fluid for the 245, but the Owners manual says AFT+4.

The QT1 uses ATF+4. That's what came out of mine so that's what I put back in.

The 2007 owners manual from wkjeeps .com states :
Transfer Case (3.7L Engine Only) Mopar ATF+4 Automatic Transmission Fluid
Transfer Case Mopar NV 247/245 Transfer Case Lubricant

The 3.7L engine is only available with QTI /nv140 transfer case and is the only case that ATF+4 is specified .

While it won't say in the owners/service manual, you can pretty much run any ATF or light weight oil in the nv140. It won't matter. That case is super simple and a quite durable single gear chain drive.
Jeep specs ATF+4 cause it's readily available in the jeep lineup but it's not critical.
I had 2 quarts of amsoil leftover from another vehicle and used it up in the transfercase of my jeep for the last 2 changes.

Qt2 was available with the 3.7 although rare.

I've heard that too , but IMO unless someone comes forward i think it's a myth , just like the myth that some 5.7L WKs came without MDS .
