Most people swap the muffler with one of your choice,(magnaflow, flowmaster, whatever) and delete the resonator at the rear of the exhaust. Some complain about drone but most are ok with it. I am doing the same and going flowmaster 44. Another guy one here has the same set up and loves it.

If you want loud go with the flowmaster super 44 with 3" inlet/outlet and new piping from the flange on back, I have it and love mine! The drone is only noticeable from 2K-2.5K rpm. You can help reduce it by getting a tuner and turning the MDS off. If you want more of an aggresive sound without the drone, go with a gibson catback or magnaflow round muffler with reso delete.

Hey I have a 4.7lt V8, I want to do a muffler swap. What is everyone talking about with the "drone" ??? Also would you go with a FLowmaster 40 series, or Flowmaster 44 or the Flowmaster Super 44? Also if I buy the muffler offline what am I looking for as to 2into1 or what's the piping of that muffler?

I ended up getting a 60 series flowmaster. It healthy sounding without getting real loud. I don't know if you have a resonator or not but if you do tell them to delete it.

I have the MBRP Catback and it is quite loud. It is a straight through muffler with 3" inlet/outlet and piping. It also deletes the resonator at the very rear.

It will drone at 1800-2000 rpm otherwise it sounds awesome!

Drone is basically a bass sound that is constant at a certain rpm inside the cabin. You can always tell a flowmaster muffler by the drone usually between 2-2,500K rpm. Some people HATE this sound, and others absolutely love it. The difference between the mufflers will be their sound. The 40's and super 44's are very similar in design. The super 44's are a bit louder with a more aggressive sound, and the 40's are a bit more low key but still have a great sound. I suggest you look up sound clips on youtube. It's not the best sound quality, but you will be able to hear the difference with the two mufflers.

As far as the muffler and exhaust are concerned, I would run all new piping from the flange on back. The flange is right after your catalytic converters and is a connecting point to the rest of your exhaust. I had my exhaust guy put the muffler as far back as possible so I don't have to worry about it when I go offroad. I went with the left offset in and center out (this matches the stock muffler). Like the others I didn't put a resonator back on. I like the sound better without it. You can always decide later to have one added in.

Oops! Sorry forgot to put that in my post. I have the Super 44 on my jeep. And I had dual 40's on my dodge ram.
I'll post a couple links to sound clips of both mufflers. You can clearly hear the more aggressive sound from the super 44.
They both have a lot more growl than the stock exhaust though.

I went with the Flowmaster Super 44 and the Resonator delete, with a nice stainless tip welded on the end.

It sounds mean (awesome) , and in my opinion isn't too loud. Im not sure how some people thought that the drone was too much, I think its just right. I have been in much louder cars I guess.

Looking back, I would probably be upset if I didn't go with the 44. I would have wanted it to be louder.
