Looking to get into a XK..

Im looking to get out of our 02 WJ LTD and into a XK LTD..
I have done some research on the commander, but there is one thing I have not been able to find.
I have been trying to look for 07/08... just bacause I usually do not look at the frist year of a generation change or in this case a new model.

Are there any known issues with the 06 year commander that would be a good reason to stay away? or is there nothing really all too significant?

It seems LTD XKs are hard to come by right now. And for some reason black seems to be the most availabe in color.

I have an 08 LTD in black im looking at... not exactly local, and 06.. right in town. both are comperable in miles and such... just different years.

Anyone have any input?
Thanks

The later model years will be harder to find as chrysler produced less and less of them due to sales dropping on them. Eventually they discontinued them. A XK is basically the same as a WK when it comes to the engine and drivetrain. I havnt personally heard many engines problems with the XK's in any model year. The main difference between the years is cosmetic and interior changes. 2008 is when changes were made to both the XK and WK.

heres all you need to know about the XK... http://xkjeeps.com/

aside from the 2006 being the first year, i would do alittle more reasearch on it and see what recalls/TSBs/etc were put out during the 2006 model year. personally get the hemi and dont look back- love the look of the overland interior on them. the later years, 2008-2010 would be the better model IMO

Thanks for all the input so far. Belive me, I am a fan of the GC... but I need more room for the little one. And I like the look

Anyway... yes, the later years are hard to find. And usually 08's are in the price range im looking for (15k).

Ok, so my WJ has 133xxx miles. Would u say an 07 overland with 126xxx miles is too high?
I don't know what the reliability is on the HEMI motors. But my 4.7 is holding on strong.

Yes - I would say that is too high for an '07 - way too high. That's averaging 21K miles a year give or take.

My wife drives her KK to work downtown and back M-F (about 50 miles or so round trip per day) not to mention weekends and other driving. I'd say she is putting over the average miles on it and is still only running around 15K miles/year.

I think the WK is about 800lbs lighter and no, the XK is not uglier. It has the OG Cherokee look about it and it rocks!

That's pretty high in mileage, I was even a little bummed our 07 had 74K on it. The HEMI will run a long time, probably longer than the XK chassis will care to without needing some major love. Damn reliable engines and very stout.

The XK and WK are the same platform/driveline. The 5.7l went to VVT in 08 or 09 and has an increase HP/TQ. Non-MDS 5.7l was used in the HD Rams along with the 545rfe transmission, the same used in the XK. It doesn't get more durable than that.

Check Carmax.

Door Panels fall apart. Search door handle issue for jeep commander.. I would look carefully at the assembly at the interior door handle to see if it is falling apart.

Thanks for all the input. I have been aware of the door handles breaking for a bit.
I'm going to ditch the 07 overland with 126k on it. Everything is great, minus the miles.

Found another one I'm planning to go look at today, hour drive.
08 LTD with 83k, they are asking $16.7k.
Looks clean from pics... Need to see it in person.
I wonder how much I can talk them down.

Glad to see you found another Jeep to look at. The door handles breaking sucks but it's an easy fix. My driver door one has been broken for the better part of a year now just havnt gotten around to fixing it yet
