Once the warm weather has returned I will be installing my Lock pick.
A couple questions.
1. What wire do I tap to allow me to turn on the stock rear (Back up)?
2. Best place to mount a forward camera?
3. Best type and place to buy a forward camera?
my version of the lock pick just allows you to hit a button twice, instead of that long sequence so you can use the nav and video and change things while in motion.
think you would need to install something else to allow manual operation of the rear or forward camera?
The LockPik is already programmed to turn on the backup camera when you shift to reverse. The instructions tell you which wire in the LockPik harness to use - can't remember off the top of my head but it is clearly labeled as such. The instructions also tell you which wires need to be clipped on the stock camera harness and replaced with wires that run to the LockPik. Once you're wired up the camera will turn on when you shift to reverse, and in my case I can view the camera anytime by tapping the Uconnect phone button quickly two times (I have the RER upgrade on my '06 Commander Limited.)
As for a forward camera.... I presume you can use any backup camera. I bought my backup camera from Best Buy for $75 or so and it has two different mounting brackets - one small and one large. Using the small bracket you could mount the camera right in front of the grill on top of the bumper. Can't visualize the front bumper on the '08 GC (need more coffee.) Is there a spot in the bumper with the camera pointed toward an opening....?
I know what wire on the lock pick harness to connect for the backup camera. I do not know what wire to tap from the Jeep harness.
