Liftgate Rattle/clunk in cold temp

I'm getting a really annoying loud clunk/rattle from the rear liftgate when temp is below around 50 degF (which it hasn't gotten up to for a few weeks). It sounds like the liftgate is not closed fully, but it is. I've replaced both the liftgate striker and latch mechanism recently, and adjusted the striker adjustment to tighten the gate. But it still clunks.

Anybody else having a similar problem or found a solution?

Does your liftgate assist you and stay open when you open it?
Does the flipper glass pop fully open by itself when you hit the release?

The struts on both also serve as vibration dampers. If they're on their way out (or already dead), you'll get a rattle when cold temps make them totally worthless.

I may try changing my lift gate struts. The lift gate struts hold the gate open fine and are only about 18 months old. They don't last long though, wouldn't hurt to change them.

I doubt this is the case for you, but I have to park outside and whenever it gets cold enough, water settles by the lift glass corners and freezes, and it rattles like crazy.
