Lets Talk Shocks - Need a Softer ride

Hey guys, well I have been doing a ton of searching and cant seem to find what would appear to be the best setup for me. My car is a 07 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7L 4x4. Tires I am having installed today are Michelin LTX M/S2 255/65-17's. Everything else is stock. The Jeep was my father-in-laws who had passed away and we paid the jeep off an am keeping it rather than having a car payment.

My wife is the primary driver unless we are doing a road trip then its me but shes complaining a little about how bumpy the jeep is as well as body roll. We do ZERO off roading and just mainly highway driving and a little in town driving. But whenever I drive it, its mostly 75mph on cruise control on flat highways.

We just came from owning a 2013 VW Passat TDI and a 2015 GMC Terrain which both had great suspensions so were a little spoiled going from new cars to a 07

Back to the point...... I have seen people talk about the Bilstein's, Monroe's, KYB's but I cant find anyone who has found a great riding shock for highway or "comfort" shock.

Anyone have any personal experience on "softer" or better dampening shocks?

As far as body roll, I have seen people upgrade to the SRT8 rear sway bar, wondering if that will be enough, looks to be about a $100-$120 modification so that might be done sooner than later.

Both of your previous vehicles had 4 wheel independent suspension which will always give you a better ride then something with a solid rear axle. I'm not sure your gonna find a softer shock then a stock shock. How many miles are on the Jeep? New shocks will help with the body roll if they have a lot of miles on them.

reach out to Kolak who is a member on this site. I bought a set of Bilsteins from him a few years ago as my stock shocks were giving too much body role. My Jeep sees no offroad and lots of highway and city driving. They were a big improvement over the stock shocks.

Agree with the other response that this Jeep has a solid rear axle so it will never be as smooth as a sedan or other vehicle with full independent suspension

Bilsteins react very fast so they will keep body motions in check. Ride quality and handling will be nicely improved.

PM me for pricing. You can either get the 4600 series or the 5100 series. The 5100 series are adjustable up front to level out the Jeep.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I'll message him I think I found the best prices on eBay but I'll check with him. I think I'll go with the 4600s.

I got my new tires I stalled today, they have a little more sidewall and are better tires then what I had on there and the car drives much better. I'll see how much kolak can get me them for and go from there.

Thanks again for the input

I don't generally go around shamelessly plugging vendors, but you will NOT beat Kolak on eBay. Believe me. I just ordered from him for the second time.

BTW Kolak, my new bilsteins arrived today and look great. Can't wait to install them. Thanks again.

I'll put in a plug for Kolak and his prices too. Love the OME HD, but sooo not a soft vw ride. But I can take 5mph speed jumps at 40.... jumps? , I meant humps.... So cool. Watch all the suckers slam on their brakes and go super slow as I glide up and over Dukes of Hazard style.... Love it

X2 on that and good luck with eBay returns or any missing parts or personalized Customer Care or knowledge about the parts they sell.

Thanks everyone for all the nice compliments and your business and support

I try my best to have the best pricing. And since I've been a Bilstein dealer for so many years, warranty claims are handled without the need for inspection and approval.

Just ordered a set of Bilstein 4600's from Kolak! I will try these out and if I want to reduce some bodyroll some more I'll go with the Addco rear sway bar like he suggested. We'll see how these shocks work out!

Thanks for the input guys.

And now, my favorite part... Coming home everyday, waiting to see the packages sitting on the front porch, it's almost like waiting for Santa when you don't know when Christmas day will come.
