Largest size Spare?

What is that largest size tire that can fit in the spare tire area?

I don't want to carry a wheel on my roof when I head out into the middle of nowhere and it doesn't look like there are any options for a good spare carrier/rear bumper setup... so i'm left with the spare well. Am I missing any other setups? Inside isn't an option.

Jeff

a 265/70 will fit if you trim the bolts and hitch down with an angle grinder. A larger tire can fit if you take out the hitch and replace the welded nuts with carriage bolts and nuts on the outside of it..

A 265/70 is the biggest i believe you can fit and most people still have to air the spare down.

I wanted to run 255 75 17 on my Jeep but the options are so limited in that size and now because of this issue, it looks like 265 70's are a better bet.

Don't take the hitch out, homie. The 4 nuts that are on the inside of the hitch (towards engine), grind those off, replace with carriage bolt. Use a nut on outside....It is in omelets build thread somewhere

You can definitely fit that size spare in if you air down and do the hitch mod, mentioned.

Look up the knuckle bone rear tire carrier, Its made by detours USA. It's a hitch mount tire carrier that angles up just as it comes out of the hitch so it doesn't decrease your departure angle. It is what I will eventually be getting

Just get a Rola Rack and put your spare up there. I have had my 265/70 up there for about 6 months now and no my MPG hasn't suffered at all.

We're going to need the space available on the roof for other things so the tire size limit has to fit in the wheel well it looks like. The ideal goal will be 255 75 17s but after looking at tire availability, there really aren't any decent all terrain tires available in that size so 265 70 17 may be the ticket.

Yep, after modifying the hitch a 255/75R17 will fit deflated and a 265/70R17 will fit inflated.
