Purchased today from Canada! Too bad the loonie is terrible (my poor wallet!). My CRD has 100,000 and some change miles, and I plan on keeping this beast for a while. This modification was on my mind since I first got it 6 months ago.
Anyways, patiently waiting for it to come in and to confirm all the claims from people on its excellence! :grin2:
gcjeepjames - let me know how it goes for you. I'm on Ontario and my 08 CRD Limited just rolled 222000 km. So far the Jeep is bone stock but religiously maintained (oil, filters, etc). Been debating doing the tune for a few years now, but have been waiting for better exchange rates!
I figure the exchange rates are going to be stagnant for quite a while, and the longer the wait (technically) the more money in fuel savings is lost. My reason for buying was primarily power and a funner ride, but will take better fuel economy with open arms.
It shipped today and is expected to be at my door in a week, so if I'm not too busy and it arrives on time, I shall update this thread around then.
1) I know from this forum and other sources that there is a lot of credibility and refinement with the GDE tune. The Malone tune isn't much cheaper, and it gives me peace of mind to have a bunch of evidence to back up claims (especially considering tunes can seriously damage engines).
2) The DPF delete add on is $149 with tune/ $349 standalone. I contacted them, and it all has to be done in 'one shot' to get the $149 price. I am not ready to replace my DPF with a replacement pipe just yet. Therefore, if in future I decided I wanted it, it would cost me $349 from them (plus tax).
3) The power figures (torque/hp) are not as high. There is no data on mileage improvement.
4) They do not provide a handheld tuner with the purchase. It costs an additional $200 or so to get one, already putting the price point near GDE's. Without a handheld, they require you drive to their shop and pay a $50 charge to get it tuned back to normal (did not receive details if reflashing the tune after is free or if there is an additional charge, but I assume the latter.)
I figure if I was going to do it, I would do it right with plentiful data and results from others who have done it while getting the best price possible.
I've run both the Eco and the Hot tunes. Both are a huge improvement over the stock performance. The Hot tune just has more kick than the Eco tune. I've been very happy with both!
Did a little experiment with my CRD! 50/50 city/hwy armored, light bar roof basket nearly bald street tires (245/65/17) no lift Amazed at how high I got my MPGs! :surprise: I imagine staying on the highway for an extended period of time, I could get up to 26. (To get this result, I drove a couple mph above the posted speed limit the whole time).
With mine, it was getting 24 MPG stock with 155,000 miles on it. With the Eco Tune, 2" lift and 31" tires I hit 26 MPG. And that was with the whole family and their luggage on-board!
