Well, the Hemi I picked up the other day did the same surge to me at a whopping 324 miles on the car. Caught me by surprise and I was going slow in town and just shut the key off and restarted it and all was fine. My 07 Chrysler 300 Hemi which I traded in for this Jeep never had any issues. Must be a Jeep thing. Attributed this to breaking in but from the discussion it may not be. Glad to have my Grand Cherokee back again.

never, EVER pull the parking brake when traveling at a high rate of speed. excellent way to lose all control and fishtail into a light post.

Had a 66 Bug that that used to happen with - drove me nuts the first time. After that, response was automatic: shift into neutral, pull over, hit the handbrake, go round back, lift the bonnet, flip the butterfly back over, close the bonnet, get back in, drive off.
What finally fixed the problem? I remove the OEM intake, put on a split set, and replaced the Stromberg PICT with a pair of Mikuni side-draughts (which I could overhaul in my sleep - and often did.) The problem was that the sector for the throttle linkage had a little too much travel in it, and it could get past the stop. The stop would then keep it from returning. Oops. Audi probably had a similar problem - especially since Audi and VW have been the same company for years...

I haven't heard that anybody's notified Chrysler and the National HighwayTraffic Safety Administration.
This problem needs urgent investigation and a recall issued . If this is going on with the drive by wire systems, somebody's going to get killed. Please notify the govt. and Chrysler. You may save somebody from injury or death |

So today at my work this happened to a car being pulled out of the shop. Throttle got stuck open and took my porter for a ride through the bay door and stopped at the wall. This jeep had factory floor mats that were attached the factory anchors on the carpet. No where near the gas pedal. No verdict yet on what caused it.

Nobody was hurt. Drug and alcohol results came back from the porter... he had alcohol in his system...

On further investigation, the pedal seems to "Stick" at WOT, the allignment of the shaft maybe partially to blame, but I have not pulled it apart to look. The pedal stays Down, and does not return. The smaller "Surge" should be a recall type issue, as that happened all by itself, but i read all over the place that when people complain, they are being told they are loco and imagining things. Now on the other hand, my wife's 4.7 is "bogging down" on acceleration from a stop sometimes, but that isnt drive by wire. |
