Jeep wk trouble startingand rough idle

Okay so I'm not very experienced with work under the hood, but recently my 3.7 will try to crank and make a few clunk noises and I turn the key to the off position for fear of damaging the engine. It seems to do this very randomly and just started about4 days ago. Also after it does it when I try to crank it again it always starts perfectly fine.i have also noticed quite a bit more heat coming from the engine. The gauge is still about half way but it is noticeably warmer. Lastly it has been having a really rough idle. It feels like there's slack in a belt or something. I just wanted to see if anyone has experienced anything like this before taking her to the dealership.

Sounds like a misfire. Change the plugs and clean off the connectors. Buy decent plugs, better to try this first before being dry raped at the stealers!!!

Is it throwing any codes? Usually a misfire will a throw a code really fast.

It's not a misfire - it would throw the code immediately. Sounds like you need a good tune up. Change the oil, change the plugs, change the air filter? Not sure how many miles you have or when that was last done. The WKs are also notorious for acting "weird" when the battery is not in absolute tip-top shape.

I've experienced something like that but not before I took it to the dealership. (Do everything you can to DIY or find a reputable shop other than a dealer).

Just the other day in fact. My 4.7 had shudder when driving and somewha at idle. Started up fine though. Did it for a bit before throwing a CEL.

Turned out to be a misfire in cylinder 8.
