Jeep GC WK Headlights HALO LED help!!!

Hi guys,

First of all this is Mike from Spain,

I own a 2008 Jeep GC WK 218HP and tired of stock lights that appear to be from the beginning of last century.

Wonder your recommendations to change front lights to "cool" White Leds Halo if posible

I guess I will have to order to USA because you have the best designs for this car...

Would appreciate your help!!!

Regards

Miguel

Miguel your best bet (for the best light output) is to do a swap to OEM HID or Replica HID lights. They look like this:

or like this:

It requires a little modification but will look better than the aftermarket with cheap halos. If you'd like to add halos it is possible to open the headlights and add them yourself. I personally prefer not to have halos because it's something else that could break or not function.

You could always use a cooler bulb with one of the above headlights to give you the desired look.

Let me know if you have any questions. I'm more than willing to give advice or point you in a direction. It may be a little tougher since you're in Spain but it's do-able.

Thanks a lot 08zombie,

I like the ones you show me, in fact is what I was looking for....i do not really know the difference between OEM HID vs HALO.

What I am looking for is a "powerfull bright white light" so if you advice me about the ones you show I will problably go for them...

Which brand are they? What modifications should I do?

I may can do it myself since I love electronics..in fact I did my bachelors degree in Maryland almost 20 years ago..

I love the way you guys investigate, produce and perform your products!!! and that is the reason why I bought a Jeep, installed A600.1 PPI amplifiers that I bougth in the USA...both, the Jeep and amplifiers are probably the best bought I have ever made

Thanks in advance

Regards

Miguel

You'll need the following to make the HID headlights work on your 2008 Jeep WK:
- 1 Pair of 2008-2010 HID headlight assemblies (D1s type)
- 9006 relay harness with capacitor
- 1 Pair of Valeo 6G ballasts (#89034934 or equivalent)
- 1 Pair of D1s bulbs
- 2 9006 extension cables (Will be cut and spliced to headlight wires to allow relay harness to power ballasts)

Total Cost (USD):
Headlights = $240+
Harness = $45
6G Ballasts = $70+
D1s Bulbs = $70 for aftermarket, $150+ for OEM
9006 Extensions = $5
Misc. = Need some solder skills for connector

The 2008-2010 HID assemblies can be found on eBay or at your local junkyard (if there is one). I recommend a harness from theretrofitsource.com because I know it works but am unsure how shipping would be to Spain. Valeo ballasts can also be found on eBay at varying prices.

Thanks a lot for your answer,

Just one doubt, I cannot find on ebay the 1 Pair of 2008-2010 HID headlight assemblies (D1s type). I like the chrome ones not the black but I also see that they are only for factory HID WK jeeps. My WK does not have the HID from factory...so what should I look for?

Thanks

Correct. You want to buy the headlight assemblies for factory HID WK Jeeps. The rest of the parts list mentioned above is what you'll need to retrofit the HID headlight assemblies and make them work on your non HID WK.

I've had quite a few rigs now with HID, beginning with high end aftermarket motorcycle stuff. I can tell you the light quality is worlds better than any crap halogen or LED bulb upgrades I've seen. Very bright light, and a strange quality that makes details easier to see.

I can also say when I did aftermarket HIDs, they were very bright, but the bulbs and ballasts were always going out. Stock HIDs have only once gone out on me, and that was about 10 years old. I vote that you bite the bullet and pay more for the stock ones, just to get the reliability. My aftermarket ones had a warranty, but I was constantly bringing it back to the shop. Sometimes they would quit for a while, then come back on, so when I take it in, they can't find anything wrong. A month later, it quits for good and they can find it.

It should be noted before I get into these 2 that just because a headlight uses a projector does not mean it is HID. There are tons of vehicles that use Halogen projectors.

Both of those options you listed are Halogen still.

The first set LOOKS like the HID ones but if you see in the description it says:
Quote:
High Beam | Re-use original 9005 bulbs
Low Beam | Re-use original 9006 bulbs
That means your bulbs are the same. It's a good option but certainly not HID.

The second option reads:
Quote:
High Beam | H1 bulbs included
Low Beam | Re-use original 9006 bulbs
So the low beam bulb remains the same and the high beam bulb is actually a step down.

I did an eBay search for "2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee HID Headlights Pair".

Not sure if anything will show up on Spain's eBay. You may need to have them shipped to you from another country... This shouldn't be an issue for you since you drive on the right side of the road.

Thank you very much and I will inform you if I find hem somewhere

Hi back again, I just found this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-08-10-G...AOSwBadTp%7ErC

Would this kit fit? I do not see they are D1S type, what does that mean?

Thanks in advance

That listing is a little vague.. You could always reach out to the seller to ask what the bulb types are.

Here is a D1s bulb (HID):

Here is a 9006/HB4 bulb (Halogen):

Define "Cheaper" HID Headlight Assembly...

You mean a set of replica OEM HID lights? They look like just the OEM HID housings but the projectors are lower quality than OEM (not that the OEM ones are THAT great to begin with). There are plenty of people that use those.

If you have a link to the ones you're asking about it would be great.
