Going to a larger tire is the same as going to a taller (lower number) gear. It lowers the cruising RPM and 'shortens the lever' that the engine has.
These gears allow guys to get back some of the 'leverage' lost with larger tires.
I'm still surprised they started with 4.10. 4.30 or 4.56 (whatever is possible with the gear pitch in this axle). Would have made more sense to me.
I ran 4.56 gears with 32" tires and a 545RFE in my Dakota. A FAR cry better than the stock 3.55's were, 60mph at 2100 vs 1500 made it much more fun to drive and better for towing.
