An interesting read on the effect of biodiesel on the CRD
http://biodieselmagazine.com/article.jsp?article_id=2290&q=&page=1
http://biodieselmagazine.com/article.jsp?article_id=1247&q=&page=1 wish I was smart enough to understand the chemistry talk in these articles. ![]() my interpretation is that biodiesel can effect engines not designed for it. The biodiesel can impact the ULSD lubricants if sat to age to long, and biodiesel affects the DPF (this is a harder thing to understand/explain), but more importantly biodiesel can end up in the engine oil causing the engine oil to breakdown more quickly (it would be interesting to have a biodiesel user have their engine oil analyzed at the regular service interval to see if that is true).

One important thing to remember, is if you go for warranty, and the dealer finds more than 5% BIO, bye bye warranty.
Plus there are many posts here, both good, bad indifferent on the topic.

I've been interested in running bio for quite some time, though the bio dealer is a ways from where I live so I haven't been able to try a fill, plus the weather is a bit to cold to use it.
There seems to be a few bio users here and on other sites that report no ill side effects. My point in posting these articles is that CRD users should read info from people that really know this stuff versus the guy that filled up his stock WK and it seems to run just great. ![]() |

To sum up these articles:
1. Bio greater than B5 dilutes the oil faster! So burn bio and change the oil more frequently....last I checked this is not a winning equation. 2. Bio is easier on the DPF...it burns off at lower temps. YAY! Oh wait...I need to go change my oil. |

Yeah, I posted these links elsewhere on this forum. They are good reading. without getting into another debate, I encourage a search of the forum for anyone thinking about running bio in the WK CRD. Anything above 5% that is. After reading all information available...draw your own conclusion. I will not be running greater than B5 in mine. Right now, sources of bio are a little too far from me and they are either B20 or B100 so I run straight ULSD.
